Summary:

The Medical Assistant, Certified functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing direct patient care. The Medical Assistant certified performs routine administrative and patient care supportive duties in a Health System Medical practice that assists medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensures the clinic/office runs smoothly.

Location/Schedule : 14 Moore Drive Research Triangle Park, NC This position can be remote after the 90 day probationary period as long as metrics are completed successful).

Work Performed Clinical responsi bilities:The CMA takes medical histories and records vitalsigns, explain streatment procedures topatients, and prepares patients for examinations andprocedures. Patient care support responsibilities mayinclude assistin gthe medicaland nursing staff duringexamination and procedures, collecti ngand preparing laboratoryspecimens, performing basiclaboratory test int he clinic/office, taking electrocardiograms,removingsutures/ staples, ch angingsterile and non-sterile dressings, promotingpatient/familyundersta nding of the educational contentandhis/her involvement in theplan ofcare , and documenting in thepatient record.Other clinical support responsibi lities includedisposing ofcontaminated supplies, instrumentprocessing,hi gh level disinfection and sterilization of medicalinstruments, telephoni ngprescriptions to a pharmacy, preparing and administering medicationsas directed by a physician,and authorizing drugrefills as directed. Performs other clinicalfunctions as delegated andsupervised by the physician. A dministrative responsibilities:The CMA greets patients, answers telephon es, schedules appointments toinclude arriveappointments in MaestroCare, checkout patients, and referralscheduling; arranges for hospitaladmissio ns and laboratory services, updates and files patient medicalrecords,fil ls out insuranceforms, handles billing, bookkeeping to include receiving copays andcollectionson accountbalances;correspondence, and ordering cl inical and clerical suppliesand forms. Performs otheradministratities su ch as JointCommission and falls and/orparticipate in clinic commivedutie s as directed. May be requested to be aliaison for clinic activittees. K nowledge, Skills and Abilities Good customer service skills. Work requir es the ability to understand and followoral and writteninstructionsgener ally acquiredthrough a high school education and medical assistantprogra mming. Heavy lifting and the abilityto transport stretcher andwheelchairpatients may be required. Workingknowledge of sterile techniquesand spec ial procedures that areapplicable to workperformed. Minimum Qualifications

Education

Level I -- Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant programstrongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required. Level II -- Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required. Level III -- Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required. Level IV -- Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.

Experience

Level I -- No experience required. Level II -- 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certifiedin a clinical setting. Level III -- 2 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting. Level IV -- 3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting. Note: 1 year of experience will be provided for an Associate degree in Medical Assisting. General Ladder Statement: In addition to the education and experience noted, applicants must meet all requirements set forth in the Medical Assistant, Certified (CMA/RMA) Ladder Program document for Levels II, III, and IV.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Level I -- Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required. BLS required. Level II -- Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required. BLS required.
