- Establishes, implements and reviews an effective infection control program for the facility that meets all government and industry regulations.
- Responsible for surveillance of nosocomial infections in the facility for both residents and employees, to include data collection and monthly reporting, and monitoring of compliance with infection control policies.
- Monitors, tracks, investigates and analyzes cause and spread of infections during an outbreak and communicates with all departments, Health Dept. and SVP, Clinical Operations. Initiates control measures and corrective action. Assures that all reportable diseases are reported according to Health department specifications.
- Maintains a complete and current manual of infection control policies and procedures, assuring regular review and updates, per COMAR
- Chairs the Infection Control committee; reports quarterly to the QI committee and actively participates in quality improvement programs.
- Obtains information concerning the communicable disease status of any resident being admitted to the facility.
- Monitors and investigates infectious diseases, potentially harmful infectious exposures and outbreaks of infections among personnel and implements preventive measures.
- Educates and encourages employees to use good personal hygiene and infection control practices. Responsible for tuberculosis testing program, influenza and HBV vaccination programs for staff, residents and volunteers, to include maintenance of accurate records.
