    We're searching for a Staff Opto-Mechanical Engineer to join our Lidar team in Mountain View or San Francisco.
    The Hardware Product Engineering Lidar team is responsible for the Lidar product design and execution.

    The team works cross functionally with the Lidar R+D team and Lidar systems team to productize our internally developed Lidar system.

    Our team works to harden the design so it can withstand intense automotive stressors and we work towards generating a more manufacturable design that is able to scale to higher volumes.

    In this role, you will
    Partner with our optical team and R+D team

    to develop next generation opto-mechanical subsystems for our next generation LIDAR systems
    Work with Zemax/Ray trace models to design the optics for the system alongside the optical team
    Aid in the development of opto-mechanical prototypes to de-risk future generation LIDAR optics
    Work with our validation and reliability teams to develop and execute test plans for our LIDAR optical subsystems
    Support existing production of our current generation LIDAR opto-mechanical elements including support of engineering change requests and general sustaining requests
    Work with reliability and design validation teams to progress A sample designs to B sample maturity
    Work with suppliers to integrate DFM/DFA feedback during B sample development
    Work with contract manufacturers to scale B sample production and manage C sample modifications
    Design prototype and mass-production parts including machined, injection-molded, formed, die-casted, extruded, etc.
    Perform design analysis including stress, strain, thermal, modal, and tolerance
    Create 2-D drawings and documentation with GD&T fundamentals
    Perform root cause analysis and drive towards mediations
    Required Qualifications
    BS / MS in Mechanical Engineering + 5 years of industry experience in Opto-Mechanical Design
    Senior or staff level experience is required for this position
    Extensive product design background with strong product design fundamentals
    Mid to high volume design of an optomechanical system
    Proficient in CAD design - Catia V6 preferred, not required
    Experience ruggedizing hardware for harsh environments (automotive a bonus)
    GD&T fundamentals
    Strong presentation and communication skills for driving critical design decisions
    Knowledge of rapid prototyping, design-for-manufacture, design-for-test, and design-of-experiments
    Desirable Qualifications
    Experience with photonic integrated circuits
    Experience with laser package design
    Experience miniaturizing photonic systems
    Sealing and ingress protection experience
    PCBA design and packaging experience
    Experience designing thermal solutions for high power densities
    Experience with common photonics technology such as optical amplifiers, light sources (such as lasers), transmission media, detectors, modulators, etc.
    Automotive background
    Lidar, radar or general sensor tech background
    The base salary range for this position is $181k to $290k per year.

    Aurora's pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location.

    Within the range, the successful candidate's starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions.

    These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
