    On Call Counsel is seeking a New York licensed litigation attorney with 2+ years of litigation experience. This is a long-term contract role (potential to become permanent) with a prestigious government agency. The ideal candidate must have recent substantive litigation experience, experience attending hearings, and negotiating settlements.

    Location: Manhattan

    Hourly Rate

    0 to 1 year of experience: $35.00

    2 to 6 years of experience: $49.00

    7+ years of experience: $42.00

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Review attorneys' fees and timesheets.
    • Draft settlement memos to get authority to settle attorneys' fees.
    • Negotiate attorneys' fees with opposing counsel.
    • Court appearances before federal and magistrate judges.
    • Negotiate with attorneys via email and over the phone.
    • Draft settlement memos, answers, and briefs.
    • Collaborative, strategize and share knowledge with colleagues handling similar cases.
    • Work on pending cases in Federal and State courts in matters involving education, health care, public assistance benefits, prison conditions, foster care, freedom of information, campaign finance, and election law.
    • Excellent research and writing skills with experience in motion practice (motion to dismiss/opposition to class certification/and/or summary judgment).
    • Discovery including taking and defending depositions, document discovery etc.

    Qualifications:

    • Actively licensed to practice law and in good standing in the State of New York with 2+ years of general litigation experience.
    • Prior settlement negotiation experience.
    • Recent substantive litigation experience.
    • Experience attending hearings.
    • Candidates must have strong analytic, research, writing, computer, and communication skills.
