    On Call Substitute positions at Southgate School

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Follows through on instructional plans as directed, and reviews with IS to assure goals are being attained;
    • Communicates clearly and accurately;
    • Responds to students appropriately;
    • Provides care and supervision of students in both instructional and non-instructional areas/times;
    • Transports and supervises students on school grounds and during community outings;
    • Assists in daily curricular activities such as bus duty, lunch duty, field trips and/or other program activities.
    • Implements classroom management procedures, strategies and techniques;
    • Assists in all areas of Daily Living Skills;
    • Creates an environment of respect and rapport;
    • Establishes an environment conducive for learning;
    • Establishes and maintains clear and consistent standards of classroom behavior;
    • Maintains physical space in a safe and suitable learning environment;
    • Participates in educational activities during instruction.
    • Participates in the planning and preparation of daily activities as directed by instructor and administration;
    • Assists in the implementation of instructional programs for each student;
    • Becomes familiar with instructional goals for each student;
    • Prepares materials and supplies;
    • Adheres to a schedule of responsibility;
    • Participates in self-evaluation of job effectiveness;
    • Maintains accurate records;
    • Communicates with families in accordance with instructor's direction and expectations;
    • Grows through collaboration including but not limited to committee work;
    • Continues professional enhancement;
    • Maintains certification(s) as required by Board of DD, licensure requirements, and others as required by administration;
    • Participates in required In-Services including but not limited to: Mandt, CPR, child abuse, MUI/UI, Universal Precautions, and others as required by administration.

    Specialized Responsibilities and Duties

    • Demonstrates proper lifting procedures and wheelchair safety.
    • Performs a variety of tasks involving lifting, feeding, and assisting in toileting that requires physical stamina and coordination.

    High School Diploma/GED, Ohio Department of Education Educational Aide Certificate. Experience in working in a classroom setting, with young children or youth in a Special Education setting. Experience in lifting and transferring of students is an essential part of this job.
