Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is to aid theCommonwealth of Virginia with the goal of improving the quality of life for individualswith disabilities by maximizing independence in living skills, recreation, and employmentactivities through innovative education, evidence-based research, andoutcome-focused patient care. We strive to serve the needs of persons with disabilities through various grant and contract projects related to traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, employment work supports, disability benefits, and enrichment of quality of life. Chief Purpose of this position: Thechief purpose of this position is to provide and advance the patient care, research andteaching missions through direct patient care in the clinic, the conduct of clinical research, and training of residents, medicalstudents and other trainees. The candidate will provide outpatient, consult, and inpatient/acute rehabilitation services. Position Responsibilities: Clinical:

Primary clinical responsibility is general rehabilitation including electrodiagnosisand interventional care as appropriate
Support established multi-specialty clinics in general PM&R diagnosis including, but not limited to, stroke, brain injury, spinalcord injury, and MSK
Responsible for the proper management and quality of service in the provision of care
Provide consults upon referral from medical facilities with formal coordinated relationships with the department
Prepare periodic reports pertaining to the care of patients to the Division Chair
Ensure that medical services are documented and signed consistent with VCUHS and payer policies and guidelines
Assist in the establishment of referral sources for VCU Medical Center and Sheltering Arms Institute
Assist the billing professionals in the preparation of appropriate charges for the medical servicesrendered and in the review of non-reimbursed billings

Teaching:

Assist in the supervision of residents, fellows, and other learners in theenvironment
Participate in the orientation of each group of house staff and students tothe Rehabilitation program
Assist in establishing the core curriculum including a list of readingmaterial for house staff and students
Assist in the evaluation of the house staff and students assigned to thefacilities after each rotation

Research:

Thoughnot a primary function of this job, participate as needed/interested inresearch activities as well as supporting ongoing and new projects asappropriate in the context of clinical care

Service:

Participate in university and department committees as requested
Contribute to the field of Physiatry overall through professionalorganizations

Other:

Represent the department in official meetings as requested
Attend scheduled Grand Rounds and staff conferences at MCV Campus andlectures upon occasion as requested
Maintain practice credentials and completion of education as required byhospital, university, and state practice organization

Required Qualifications:

Medical Degree (MD or DO)
Must have good academic and clinical credentials
Demonstrated ability to establish new clinical initiatives
Effective oral and written communication and leadership skills
Ability to work well with people in a team environment is essential
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
