    Essential Job Functions

    Description of Job Function
    1. Provides developmental advising to students in individual and group settings, including discussions of life and educational goals, educational planning, review of entry assessment information and course selection in accordance with the LifeMap system.

    2. Provides students with in-depth college information and policy interpretation relevant to their academic progress (i.e. graduation requirements, transfer information, counselors, etc.).

    3. Refers students to appropriate resources to support their academic success (i.e. financial aid, career center, tutoring center and student development programs, etc.).

    4. Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from a computer.

    5. Reviews college transfer coursework to determine initial educational plan.

    6. Implements specific components of the student services program as to provide efficient and quality student services.

    7. Accepts referral from academic deans, faculty and student services staff to assist specific students in accomplishing educational goals.

    8. Provides advising support for specific populations and programs.

    9. Facilitates development of educational plan for suspended and probation students using developmental advising in order to adhere to college policy.

    Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Psychology, Education, Sociology, or related field.

    Experience with developmental advising.

    Working Conditions

    General Working Conditions
    This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

    Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-15 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to frequently using discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making.
