    DESCRIPTION OF POSITION AND REQUIREMENTS:

    The Signal Processing Department at the Undersea Systems Office (USO) of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is in search of a motivated and skilled Signal Processing Engineer to explore, produce, assess, and introduce new capabilities for handling undersea platform sensor data.

    ARL is a validated DoD SkillBridge associate and encourages all transitioning military members to consider applying.

    Responsibilities:
    • Develop algorithms for vehicle guidance and control, with focus on active waveform design, beamforming, broadband processing, passive multi-source angle estimation, acoustic communication, environmental adaptation, multi-target detection, tracking, and classification, and machine learning
    • Work together with real-time code developers and modeling/simulation analysts to merge system software
    • Contribute significantly to assessing the feasibility of goals/objectives; may assess ongoing or proposed projects
    • Create avenues to improve technical methods or content by expanding existing efforts or creating new ones; may expand technology into new application fields; participate or lead in intellectual development endeavors
    • Offer innovative problem-solving strategies to boost organizational capacities; utilize peer connections to enhance technical abilities and identify new research prospects
    Higher-level responsibilities:
    • Comprehend broad strategic aims and contribute to them; uphold and nurture relationships with key customers/grantors of external research and development grant funding
    • Work in collaboration with USO leadership, sponsors, and the technical community to strategize and execute programs that advance autonomous capabilities for present and future applications
    • Guide appointed staff in enhancing technical, project, and business development proficiencies
    This role can be occupied at different tiers based on the individual's education and work history. At least a Bachelor's Degree in an engineering or science related field plus five years of related experience or an equivalent blend of education and experience is required. Additional experience, education, and skills are necessary for higher-level positions.

    This position will be filled as either Research Faculty or a Research and Development Engineer.

    Necessary skills and experience:
    • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or C++
    • Signal processing expertise
    • Development of algorithms
    Desirable skills and experience consist of:
    • A Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science/Engineering
    • Expertise in vehicle guidance and control
    • Skills in detection, communication
    • Expertise in target tracking and classification
    • Knowledge in machine learning
    • Background in underwater acoustics

    $109, $191,000.00
