    Terms of employment
    This is a one-year position for the School Year which is 187 days (Days and salary will be prorated if start date is after the school year begins). Salary for this position is currently $45,000 for the full school year but is expected to increase depending on spring salary negotiations. The District provides its employees with a comprehensive benefits program including medical, life, and dental insurance. The District provides three medical plans for which it pays the full premium for employees, and a fourth option is a buy-up plan for which the district pays the majority of the premium. In addition, the District pays the full employee premium for dental insurance and life insurance. The District contributes to PERA on each employee's behalf and offers additional retirement savings options as well as optional supplemental insurance. Employees also receive paid time off. Worker's compensation and unemployment insurance are provided in accordance with State law.

    Position Purpose
    The school psychology intern works under the direction of a school psychologist at assigned school(s) to provide services to students and families that require evaluative and supportive mental health services. This position reports to the Executive Director of Student Services.

    Essential Performance Responsibilities
    • Participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary assessment team for initial and re-eligibility evaluations for students with or suspected of having a disability
    • Provide individual and/or group counseling for students with mental health or social difficulties (serving students with an identified disability or at-risk) under the supervision of the school psychologist
    • Participate on a school-based problem solving team as needed
    • Assist the building IEP team to complete Functional Behavioral
    • Analysis as needed to develop a legally defensible Behavior Intervention Plan, FBA, or other plans
    • Provide consultation and advocacy support services including problem solving and resources to parents of students with disabilities and/or at-risk students
    • Assist with interviewing students during a crisis situation to determine level of threat for harm to self or others, under the supervision of a school psychologist
    • Advocate for students based on professional and ethical guidelines, as well as district and state standards
    • Maintain accurate and complete records required by law and in accordance with district policy
    Education and Training
    Must have completed graduate coursework in educational/psychological assessment from an accredited University.

    Experience
    Experience working in a school setting preferred with students PK-21

    Confidential Information
    • Staff members shall not access, receive, transmit or retransmit material regarding
      students, parents/guardians or district employees that is protected by confidentiality
      laws.
    • If material is not legally protected but is of a confidential or sensitive nature, great care
      shall be taken to ensure that only those with a "need to know" are allowed access to
      the material.
    • Staff members shall handle all employee, student, and district records in
      accordance with applicable district policies.
    • Staff members who intentionally disclose student records, other confidential student information and/or district information may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination
    Skills, Knowledge, and Equipment
    • Knowledge and basic understanding of IDEA, Exceptional Children's Education Act, and other relevant pieces of legislation
    • Knowledge of current psychological techniques including the administration and interpretation of various assessment tools
    • Knowledge and understanding of basic psychological and educational foundations including social and cognitive development, theories of learning and motivation, and awareness of instructional practices
    • Knowledge of current best practices in school-based prevention and early intervention strategies for students with learning disabilities, or mental health and/or social needs
    • Demonstrated skills in facilitation, conflict resolution and student and adult learning
    • Demonstrated skills in data gathering and analysis
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Evidence of organization, planning and time management skills
    • Knowledge of MTSS framework
    Certificates, Licenses, and Registration
    Must have, or have the ability to obtain a current School Psychologist Intern Authorization from the Colorado Department of Education.

    Supervise daily activities of students in employee's care

    Judgment and Decision Making
    This position requires application of knowledge to efficiently assess needs of students, evaluate medical/behavioral records and follow district guidelines under the supervision of a licensed school psychologist. Work is guided by Weld County School District RE-5J policies and procedures.

    Diversity of Duties
    Duties are of a somewhat diversified nature but within a particular field of endeavor where employee is responsible for choice of action within prescribed limits or precedents. Duties require the use of independent thinking and judgment.

    Safety of Self and Others
    You must familiarize yourself with the safety rules of your job and participate in all safety training provided by your building. You must wear personal protective equipment whenever required, ask for assistance if the task requires more than one person and, if you're unsure how to perform a task safely, stop and ask your supervisor for instruction before continuing. All employees of the district are responsible for maintaining a safe and healthy workplace and ensuring that safety precautions and practices are followed.

    We expect you to immediately report any unsafe working conditions or safety problems to your supervisor. Until corrective action is taken, be sure that the area or condition is restricted and that cautionary devices, i.e., cones, temporary fencing, floor signs, etc. are in place so that others are not affected or injured.

    Physical Demands
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

    Work Environment
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    Mental Functions
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to instruct, communicate, coordinate and use interpersonal skills; interprets and assess student health information, and use strong decision making and analytical skills.
