    Description
    Summary
    This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.

    You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

    Duties

    This is an RN job opportunity in the Critical Care service line at the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center. The Critical Care service line consists of three (3) Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and one (1) Stepdown Unit (SDU).

    The selected candidate may be assigned to any of the above mentioned units dependent on staffing needs at the time of hire.

    The preferred candidate will have at least two (2) years of recent nursing experience within a Critical Care or ICU hospital setting.

    Candidates with prior Critical Care experience will be required to successfully complete Critical Care orientation which includes knowledge tests and preceptorship.

    Candidates without or with limited prior Critical Care experience will be required to successfully complete a Critical Care course/Critical Care preceptor experience program.

    Critical Care nurses are responsible for nursing practice as outlined in the Performance Expectations, competencies, and all CCSL/Medical Center policies and procedures.

    Staff nurses assume the role of Patient Care Managers, utilizing an interdisciplinary team approach to ensure high quality, cost-effective patient outcomes.

    Staff nurses are also expected to contribute to the development of plans of care, pursue continuous quality enhancement of clinical practice, and participate in scientific inquiry and data collection.

    Staff Nurses respond to Condition A and C calls and Chest Pain calls throughout the hospital as assigned and must demonstrate the ability to multi-task as well as respond to and prioritize changing patient care needs, identify emergency conditions and take prompt appropriate actions.

    Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required for Critical Care nurses in direct patient care positions.

    Patient care is provided 24/7 on rotating tours of duty and the incumbent must be comfortable with flexibility in work schedule and assignment.
