    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Network Engineer II is responsible for providing deployment support for CENIC Associates. This entails working with the current and future CENIC Associates and other CENIC teams to deploy new or upgraded CalREN member services.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None

    LOCATION: Hybrid

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Deploy, install, and configure new network devices and/or network services or upgrade existing devices and services for CENIC Associates
    • Work closely with the CENIC Program Management Office to gather member requirements and recommend appropriate network deployment solutions based on existing service offerings
    • Partner with other members of the Network Engineering team to complete complex member deployment requests, such as dark fiber builds
    • Create and update network documentation needed to ensure a maintainable, streamlined, and efficient CENIC network
    • Participate in updating and revising policies, procedures, technical reports, and internal training material as needed

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    • 2 years experience with network configuration, implementation, and operations
    • Experience with Cisco and Juniper routers and switches
    • Experience with OSPF or IS-IS, and IP Routing basics

    PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    • 4 years experience with network configuration, implementation, and operations
    • Cisco CCNA or JNCIA certifications
    • Experience with BGP, MPLS, Segment Routing, and EVPN
    • Experience with optical transmission systems such as WDM
    • Experience in a university and/or research environment
    • Experience with network tools such as Zabbix, Netbox, Cisco NSO, etc.
    • Basic Python or other programming knowledge

    WORK HOURS:

    The regular workweek is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend work may be required based on CENIC's business demands.

    TRAVEL:

    Out-of-area and overnight travel may occasionally be expected depending on CENIC's business needs.
