    POSITION TITLE: Recruitment Counselor- Middle School/High School Advisor, Educational Talent Search (part-time)

    DEPARTMENT: Student Services and Enrollment Management (SSEM)/TRIO Educational Talent Search

    PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River

    REPORTS TO: Assistant Director, TRIO Educational Talent Search and Upward Bound

    POSITION STATUS: This is an MCCC/MTA, part-time, grant funded, non-benefitted, 18.5 hours per week unit position. This position is subject to grant budget appropriations.

    SALARY: $32.00 per hour.

    ANTICIPATED START DATE: April 2024

    STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

    The Recruitment Counselor - Middle School/High School Advisor assists in the operation of the Educational Talent Search Program. The goal of the program is to increase the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who enroll in and complete post-secondary education. Duties include, but are not limited to, recruitment and retention of program participants, developing and implementing educational support services for a caseload of middle school and high school participants in Fall River sites; presenting information to middle and high school student groups and individuals on educational choices, college admissions and financial aid; providing motivational support, academic counseling and acting as a strong advocate for middle school and high school program participants; and working with college and school personnel to achieve goals and objectives of the program.

    The position requires local travel to the target schools and community organizations within Fall River. The position also requires access to a reliable vehicle and a safe driving record, willingness to drive a small van as part of field trips, and travel to conferences for professional development. Evening and weekend hours are required, as well as overnight staffing for Talent Search programming.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Work with program staff, community, and Fall River school personnel to conduct outreach activities to identify and recruit potential participants.
    • Assist in development and delivery of program services; maintain program records and track student progress.
    • Act as liaison with middle and secondary school personnel in Fall River.
    • Monitor middle school and high school students' course selection, academic progress, and performance; collaborate with guidance counselors and educators to offer academic support as needed.
    • Conduct on-going recruitment and retention activities in coordination with other program staff and contribute to follow-up reports of program graduates, including preparation of surveys, mailings, electronic communications, and phone calls.
    • Facilitate student and parent workshops in related college access topics, and implement educational initiatives and activities with program team throughout the year.
    • Organize and chaperone periodic college fairs and field trips, overnight and weekend college visits and trips as needed, and provide supervision during program events.
    • Assist in developing workshop curriculum, materials for college applications, financial aid applications, and other relevant workshops and presentations; ensure overall student enrichment in the program.
    • Organize workshops for the families of participants.
    • Assist in the training of Talent Search program tutors, mentors, and presenters.
    • Help to implement evaluation of project components.
    • Assist in the completion of required federal, state and college reports, providing data collection, and analysis, including reports on the effectiveness of services for the program's students and graduates.
    • Produce daily, weekly, and monthly status updates.
    • Create, build, and maintain social media outreach to schools and program participants in coordination with Marketing & Communications.
    • Collaborate with other personnel in the college, including multicultural affairs, student affairs, academic affairs, admissions, financial aid, advising, dual enrollment, facilities, technology, and communications, as well as others, to maximize services available to program participants.
    • Attend college-wide meetings, workshops, conferences, and professional development trainings.
    • Organize Saturday Academic Programs.
    • Assist with planning of Summer Enrichment Program and activities.
    • Demonstrate a sense of professionalism and consistently reflect Bristol's core values while interacting with members of the Bristol community.
    • Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions and work collaboratively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
    • Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
    Requirements:

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.
    • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Sociology, Liberal Arts, or closely related field, such as English, mathematics, or science.*
    • Minimum of two (2) years of experience and/or training involving public education, which may include teaching, tutoring, or mentoring; college admissions; academic advisement; or customer service.*
    • *An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience shall be considered.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body; as well as the ability to work independently.
    • Demonstrated strong organizational, technology, written and verbal communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to write and speak clearly and effectively.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365, including PowerPoint.
    • Strong presentation skills.
    • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
    • Must pass CORI/SORI background check as a condition of employment.
    • Reliable transportation in order to travel to and from meetings, trainings, or campus and community locations as required.
    • Valid driver's license required; including a safe driving record.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Minimum of a Master's degree in teaching, counseling, or curriculum design.
    • Demonstrated teaching/tutoring experience with low-income, first-generation, middle and/or high school youth.
    • Workshop leadership and/or presentation experience.
    • Knowledge of and experience in college admissions and college counseling for middle and/or high school youth.
    • Knowledge of and/or experience in career and financial aid advisement for middle and/or high school youth.
    • Demonstrated skill and experience with records and database management.
    • Ability to use innovative techniques and interactive media technologies to enhance student learning.
    • Robust understanding and demonstrated inclusion of best practices focused on access, equity, student success, and high impact practices.
    • Ability to communicate in a language in addition to English.
