- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Current South Carolina RN license.
- 1-2 years experience with GI Nursing
- Prefer certification in GI Nursing
- Current BLS & ACLS certification
- Provides multi-dimensional care for assigned patients:
- Identifies assigned patients in pre-operative holding area.
- Have patient identify him/herself, checks armband ID & chart labels, making sure all match.
- Review patient history and medication list.
- Starts peripheral IV as needed
- Checks chart and H&P from physician's office:
- Notes pre-operative work-up, including lab work
- Notes allergies
- Checks operative permit and reports any deviation in the laboratory or work-up results, including deviation in vital signs, improper colon prep & results, and NPO status
- Assists in setting up all equipment & supplies, checks monitors, scope, printer, and suction machine for proper working order.
- Transports patient from admitting/holding area to procedure room efficiently.
- Positions patient as indicated, using proper body mechanics. Ensures patients are properly positioned.
- Correctly places monitor leads, blood pressure cuff, & electro-surgical pad (when indicated) on patient.
- Has basic knowledge of each physician's preference, and assists the needs of the physician.
- Demonstrates correct knowledge on medication administration for conscious sedation and other medications commonly used in GI/Pain procedures, including reversal agents (see Conscious Sedation Policy).
- Monitors the patient when medication is given and assesses patient's physiological and psychological needs & responses. Documents vital signs, medications/IV fluids given, and completes the Intra-Procedure Record.
- Provides general maintenance of the clinical area.
- Demonstrates awareness of patient's fears & apprehensions, communicates in a polite and courteous manner.

- Practices conservative utilization of supplies.
- Understands costs, carefully uses supplies, and introduces and supports ideas for reducing costs.
- Restocks supplies maintaining appropriate par levels, orders supplies and meds when needed.
- Makes productive use of downtime and adapts to schedule changes.

Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE: The Nurse Transporter is responsible for providing quality nursing care while maintaining accountability for the coordination of patient care. The Nurse Transporter is responsible for transporting the ASC patients from pre-procedural bay area to the procedure room and back to the post bays after the procedure. The transporter ensures this process is completed safely and efficiently. Demonstrates willingness to perform any additional tasks or responsibilities delegated to him/her by his/her supervisors.
REQUIRED MINIMUM TRAINING AND EDUCATION:
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Based on the OSHA guidelines for protection against occupational exposure to Hepatitis and HIV, this position is described as Category I. This means that this position has exposure to blood and bodily fluids. Policies are in place for Universal Precautions identifying risks and appropriate barrier protection.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand,use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, and is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to push, pull, manipulate, and lift patient weight up to 350 pounds with assistance. Wears lead apron (10-15lbs). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
