Postdoctoral Research Scholar - North Carolina, United States - North Carolina State University

    Default job background
    Part time
    Description
A Postdoctoral Research Scholar position is available for support in the NSF grant titled

    ARTS:
A North American Monograph of the Powdery Mildews; DEB

The scholar will be engaged in diverse activities such as wet lab tasks, the cultivation of challenging-to-culture fungi, and plant pathological growth chamber and greenhouse trials.

The main role of the position will be to sequence full genomes of powdery mildew species, especially those that are emerging threats on agricultural crops around the world.

Population genetics will be conducted to assess the spread of a particularly virulent species on blueberries. Proficiency in aseptic techniques is essential, as this position will be responsible for maintaining mycological cultures with precision.

This involves tasks such as isolating RNA/DNA from mycological tissues, performing techniques like PCR and quantitative PCR, executing agarose gel electrophoresis, bioinformatics and conducting plant pathological assessments.

These experiments will be thoughtfully devised and carried out in secure environments such as growth chambers and dedicated greenhouses.

The incumbent will play a pivotal role in planting and tending to plants within both the greenhouse and laboratory settings.

The Postdoc's responsibilities will include data collection, data analysis, composing scientific publications, contributing to the design of the laboratory's webpage, and confidently delivering both oral and poster presentations to share findings.
