    General Description:

    The Thriving Families Safer Children Program Coordinator will use a two-generation approach to increase accessibility to economic, natural, and concrete supports and ensure equitable access to programs and services that promote the wellbeing and economic stability of consumers in the community. This position is under the direct supervision of the Director of Early Childhood and Family Services

    Requirements:

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Develops, documents, and implements policies and procedures that promote primary prevention to support children and families within the program.
    2. Oversees the day-to-day operation of the FRC (Family Resource Center).
    3. Collaborates with community partners to ensure prevention supports of children and families are met.
    4. Partners with human services, arts and cultural organizations, health care and workforce institutions to provide access to opportunities to improve wellbeing and economic stability for individuals and families.
    5. Implements an integrated approach to engage individuals with lived expertise, (LEx Leaders), to provide insight into the needs and priorities of the community.
    6. Coordinates the advisory committee consisting of LEx leaders and numerous other community partners to identify and address the needs and gaps in service of the designated target area.
    7. Plans and implements new and innovative services based on needs identified.
    8. Provides high-quality, appropriate, and culturally sensitive family support programs activities to help connect families to each other in the community.
    9. Oversees quality control for the program including monitoring program outcomes, evaluating program effectiveness, and staying current with research in the field.
    10. Completes all paperwork to ensure compliance with program guidelines and funding source requirements.
    11. Assists the Director and Finance Department in developing the program budget.
    12. Assists with grant writing, fund development, and marketing of the program in the target area.
    13. Meets regularly with leaders of other NRCA programs to ensure integration of program operations.
    14. Ensures confidentiality of consumer records and information.
    15. Professionally represents NRCA in the community.
    16. Participates fully in meetings and training as deemed necessary by supervisor.
    17. Reports to the Department of Social Services all suspected child, aged or incapacitated adult abuse and neglect as required by law and documents accordingly. The Commonwealth of Virginia mandates the reporting of suspected child abuse and neglect within 24 hours to the local DSS. Informs supervisor of all reports to the Department of Social Services.
    18. Other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

    Must:

    • Possess excellent communication skills.
    • Fluently use Microsoft office and required online databases.
    • Work under direction toward broadly defined objectives.
    • Possess good decision-making skills.
    • Prioritize work and manage multiple tasks effectively.
    • Be willing to work nights and occasional weekends, when needed.
    • Provide services to individuals and families that are collaborative, accessible, equitable, and respectful.
    • Be able to problem solve, handle crisis, and exercise good judgement.
    • Work well with people of various cultures from low-income backgrounds.
    • Maintain regular attendance and perform job duties in a satisfactory manner.
    • Notify supervisor by 7:30 am if unable to report to work.

    Before employment, the applicant must sign authorizations for NRCA to perform DMV and Criminal Record Checks. These will be used to demonstrate that a satisfactory driving record and no pending or found charges or convictions related to abuse, neglect, or exploitation of children or adults are present. This information can also be used to determine if any other felonies or misdemeanor charges which would conflict with the mission and philosophy of the agency are present.

    Driving is an essential function. Must possess a valid driver's license and safe driving record. Must be able to drive up to 4 hours per day but may be required to drive more than 4 hours in each day. Some night/overnight driving may be required for an out-of-town training or meeting.

    If an agency vehicle is unavailable, must have a vehicle with valid inspection and insurance meeting minimum state requirements available for travel within the New River Valley and in pre-approved cases outside the New River Valley. Mileage is reimbursed by NRCA.

    Education and Experience Requirements:

    Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field. Experience working with children and families with diverse needs and backgrounds required.

    Full-time, salried exempt position. Starting pay is a minimum of $47,158 annually, possibly more depending on qualifications, plus full benefits. Additional compensation for being bilingual (Spanish/English).

    NRCA conducts pre-employment criminal background, child abuse and neglect, and driving record checks. Possession of a valid driver's license and a good driving record is required. Pre-employment drug testing and an employment physical are also required
