    Description – Chief Robotics System Engineer


    A highly motivated robotics system engineer or controls engineer with a strong track record in robotics and machine automation, and a desire to extend their application to management, to lead and be part of a small but focused team whose main objective will be to design and develop new, and refine existing, robotic systems for automation solutions in oil and gas drill floor activities, with the primary emphasis being improved safety, efficiency, and robust execution of handling operations.


    The successful candidate will lead and work as part of a focused multi-disciplined team to deliver robotic and machine automation systems based on NOV's ATOM RTX robotic system.

    Through implementation of developed hardware and software, and in collaboration with internal development and product engineering groups and specialized vendors, the goal will be to develop systems that allow for safe and efficient handsfree pipe handling and drill floor automation.

    This role is a technically challenging one with an aspect to team leadership in a dynamic environment.

    The role requires candidates to be able to apply themselves in different engineering disciplines as well as leading by example to successful outcomes.

    The candidate will be required to work in office and workshop environments and may require periodically travelling domestically and internationally to customer facilities and installations to support/oversee installation and commissioning activities.

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities will fall into the following main areas, but are not limited to:


    Provide technical leadership, guidance and direction to a focused group of robotics development and systems engineers to deliver engineering solutions for land and offshore installations, utilizing NOV's ATOM RTX robotic system.


    Collaborates with engineering teams across NOVs engineering landscape to provide unique and novel solutions to complex problems relating to systems integration of ATOM RTX into broader automation solutions.


    Provide leadership and guidance in, and influence for, the development of new principles and concepts for use in technological solutions.


    Conduct research and develop advanced knowledge in robotics and related fields to the completion of projects of the highest complexity.

    Conduct and lead in strategically important projects of high technological complexity.

    Participate in a leading capacity in the development of NOV specifications, policies, and standards relating to robotic systems.

    Ensure application of NOV standards, and work with vendors and clients during specification, design review, design approval.

    Adhere to and promote NOV's HSE requirements and culture.

    Serve as a leader and mentor to robotics teams members to assist them in their development and technical knowledge.

    Qualifications


    Minimum Qualifications / Skills:
    Bachelors/Masters Degree in a related engineering field with practical experience in robotics, industrial automation, and related and adjacent technologies


    A minimum of 20 years of demonstrable experience in the research, development, design, and deployment of industrial machinery and robotics in automated system solutions.

    Superior and extensive knowledge and experience of robotic control systems architecture, both in terms of hardware and software.

    Superior and extensive knowledge of robotics platforms and adjacent technologies.

    Superior and extensive knowledge of machine vision systems, technologies, and platforms.

    Superior and visionary analytical and problem-solving skills.

    Knowledge of Oil and Gas drilling rig processes.

    Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.

    Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

    Excellent leadership skills.
