- Prepare meals in accordance with planned menus.
- Schedule and supervise a staff five in the kitchen and dining room.
- Maintain a clean and sanitized kitchen and dining hall.
- Wear proper attire, i.e. uniforms, aprons, smocks, gloves, hairnets/hats, etc.
- Monitor thermometers on the freezer/refrigerator.
- Check and put away incoming stock in proper storage areas,
- Control inventory, i.e. place food orders, maintain an adequate supply, track and rotate stock, and discard outdated and damaged stock.
- Participate in employee staff meetings and training
- Complete other duties as assigned.

- Able to bend, squat, sit, and lift 50 lbs.

Job Summary:
The Bowery Mission (TBM) exists to promote the flourishing of New Yorkers overcoming homelessness and marginalization. As a core program of TBM, the Mont Lawn Retreat Center's history stretches back to 1894, when The Bowery Mission first invited 3,000 children from the Lower East Side for a week of outdoor adventure away from the busy city. Now, our year-round campers traditionally join hundreds more for a week in the beautiful Poconos Region of Pennsylvania providing safe spaces for children and their families to experience the love of God through supportive relationships, learning and enrichment activities. Mont Lawn Camp/Summer Camp (MLC) and Mont Lawn City Camp (MLCC) support the development of leadership and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills, including emotional management, empathy, teamwork, responsibility, initiative, and problem-solving.
The Lead Cook will be responsible to coordinate as well as participate in all of the daily activities of the food service personnel as they prepare, cook, and serve 500+ meals daily. The Lead Cook is expected to work as part of a team to maintain the cleanliness of the Kitchen, Serving Areas, Equipment, Freezers, Coolers, Pantry, and Spice / Storage Rooms. This is a full-time position with medical and dental benefits.
This position is temporary to support our Summer Camp staff and participants during the following dates:
- May 20th, 2024 thru August 12th, 2024 Weekly schedule is Tuesday - Saturday 6 AM - 2:30 PM
