    ** This position will ideally be based in Austin, TX out of our headquarters office and will be a hybrid role. Candidates based in other geographies across the U.S. will also be considered for a remote role. **

    SUMMARY/OBJECTIVEThe VP of Engineering is responsible for overseeing Vetspire's technology engineering teams and Enterprise architecture.

    Vetspire is a cloud-based practice management and electronic health records platform for veterinary clinics (used at Thrive locations and is sold as a service to other Veterinary practices).
    Vetspire is the software stack that runs everything inside of the veterinary clinic, from scheduling appointments, writing medical records, ordering, and viewing laboratory results, taking patient histories, messaging clients, communications, invoicing, billing, and inventory management. Vetspire allows veterinarians to operate every digital need of their Practice from within the platform.

    The VP will be responsible for building and running Vetspire's engineering practice across all Vetspire owned practice management software products platforms. The VP is accountable for the technical product development and leadership of both the technology delivery teams and architecture as a cross-functional team across the technology organization. The VP will operate as a lead facilitator/collaborator with the key business owners/product owner and stakeholders.

    This VP will report directly to the CEO and CTO and will be a major contributor in setting the technology teams' strategic direction, driving growth, and delivering an innovative offering. The VP will use a product centric approach across all digital/technology platforms online, in-practice and mobile.

    In addition, the VP will need to be able to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment, providing thought leadership and acting as the lead facilitator/collaborator, participating with the Technology Executive Team in all key department decisions. The VP will head the Architecture Committee, which will provide architectural guidance to ensure all systems and applications are built to Vetspire's standards and specifications.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
    • Work as a trusted technical advisor to the CTO/CEO/Vetspire to set the technology strategy and select technology to be used within the platform ecosystem
    • Build an Engineering practice and setup Software Engineering standards
    • Responsible for establishing the Application and Platform 'Center of Excellence' that includes staffing, tools, process, and defining a service catalog
    • Responsible for managing development teams both onshore and offshore
    • Work with the Product teams to provide technical designs for implementations
    • Provide highly reliable cloud solutions that are extremely secure enabling Operations to manage environments simply and effectively
    • Hire and manage engineering talent
    • Drive the adoption of standard toolsets to reduce complexity and technology support operational goals to increase automation across the enterprise
    • Engineer high performance and high availability cloud-based systems for the organization
    • Develop and execute on long range technology strategy roadmaps
    • Continuously assess current technology footprint and market offerings, drive technology decisions, lead POCs of new solutions/capabilities
    • Increase the quality of methodology execution
    • Conduct architectural and engineering review of proposed IT investments/solutions to determine the strategic alignment and technical soundness
    • Provide technical recommendations to senior executives to assist with decisions made regarding proposed IT investments/solutions
    • Offer expert advice on application solutions including assisting with planning and architectural design, development, and resolution of technical issues
    • Develop and improve guidelines and criteria for the review of proposed IT solutions
    • Support risk identification and mitigation process and provide issue management recommendations as required
    • Manage escalations, change controls and risks across all levels and parties
    • Implement, refine, and improve structure and process and help to create quality standards and documentation
    • Help to define best practices for team coordination, including communication patterns and division of responsibility
    • Develop, define, and help maintain technology product roadmaps
    • Aide in establishing and implementing short and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures
    Innovation & Strategy
    • Provide technical leadership to product engineering teams including contributing to product development
    • Effective communication of technology directions, capabilities, initiatives, and innovations to the other members of the leadership team
    • Alignment with technology peers to ensure a team-based delivery culture across shared resource pools
    • Provide guidance on new tools, approaches, methods and features, leading technical solution team on implementation as required
    • Assist in the development of business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for initiatives
    • Analyze existing systems and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of these systems
    • Explore new technologies and present findings
    • Responsible for quality provision of Innovation, project delivery, maintenance, and operation support aspects of portfolio against defined system SLAs
    Budget/Financial P&L / Contractual Negotiation Responsibilities
    • Be involved in or coordinate discussions/negotiations with third party suppliers as dictated by deliverable requirements
    • Assist with developing yearly budgets within the IT department
    • Aid in the development of productivity measures and cost strategies
