    Job Summary: The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for the management and oversight of all aspects of the

    Laboratory Department and/or Laboratory testing within Mid-Valley Hospital & Clinic.

    Duties include but are not limited to performing testing procedures for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases; supervision of personnel; budget administration; quality assurance and management; supply procurement and contract negotiation; selection, purchase, and service of equipment; compliance with all regulatory agencies; maintenance of policies and procedures; and maintenance of laboratory coding and billing procedures.


    Education Background and Experience

    Minimum Education:


    • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology.

    Required Licensure / Certifications:


    • American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification
    • Current Health Care Licensure in the State of Washington.

    Required Experience:


    • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in the clinical laboratory of an acute care hospital (in non-waived testing).
    • One year of supervisory experience

    Meets CLIA Classifications:
    Technical supervisor (high complexity testing) for all areas excluding immunohematology. General supervisor (high complexity testing) for immunohematology.


    Preferred Qualifications:


    • Three years' experience in laboratory management
    • Prefer experience with regulatory and accreditation of laboratory operations.
    • Experience with the Cerner electronic health record system
    • Bilingual in English/Spanish

    Essential Job Functions


    • Manages the day-to-day operation and coordination of Laboratory services following organizational goals and objectives.
    • Develops strong, collaborative relationships with the Laboratory Medical Director, physicians, and provider staff.
    • Responsible for the safety and comfort of patients, and the health and safety of staff.
    • Manages the Laboratory to improve patient, provider, and staff satisfaction.
    • Identifies opportunities to measure, evaluate, and increase quality, safety, effectiveness, and efficiency.
    • Maintains current knowledge of hospital policy, state requirements, and other accreditation and/or regulatory requirements.
    • Responsible for promptly managing staff and/or patient complaints/grievances.
    • Develops and maintains departmental policy and procedure manuals to ensure efficient and professional department operation and guidance.
    • Responsible for the development of integrated laboratory testing and billing through the hospital's electronic medical record system in conjunction with Information Management Services and/or Informatics.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of new testing methods, products, and instrumentation; remains informed on all current technologies.
    • Monitors preventative maintenance and quality control on all instrumentation and methods, including biannual calibration verification and/or Individualized Quality Control Plans.
    • Responsible for the Clinical Laboratory enrollment in an approved proficiency testing program for all tests performed.
    • Responsible for the preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of all laboratory equipment.
    • Participates in Management meetings and meets regularly with the Laboratory Director.
    • Effectively coordinates activities of the Laboratory services with other departments and physician offices to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient flow of information to and from those areas.
    • Uses hospital-approved computer systems to perform routine and administrative functions through host systems and network programs.
    • Responsible for maintaining detailed and accurate records for state survey inspections and/or accreditation inspections. Complies with correcting deficiencies on time.
    • Directs and evaluates the department's workforce in terms of overall staffing and scheduling.
    • Recruits staff members who are in congruence with service excellence and quality patient care.
    • Select, train/orient, assign, and schedule department staff.
    • Oversee the completion/monitoring of staff competencies.
    • Manage employee timecards, time-off requests, and other payroll functions as required.
    • Develop and maintain current job descriptions and conduct annual employee evaluations.
    • Engage in ongoing feedback on the effectiveness of staff members in their roles.
    • Provides for professional growth and development of staff through identification of needs, sponsoring training programs, encouraging education (formal and continuing) efforts, and evaluation of work performance.
    • Plans and conducts periodic staff meetings.
    • Be familiar with the collective bargaining agreement of the UFCW 3000 and Mid-Valley Hospital.
    • Maintains reports and statistics for administrative, regulatory, and reporting purposes.
    • Keeps Administration informed of Laboratory activities, accomplishments, needs, and problems.
    • Institutes necessary modifications to procedures and department resource commitments as financial changes dictate.
    • Monitors systems for timely, accurate charge entry, coding, and reconciliation.
    • Maintains a current awareness of third-party reimbursement regulations and contractual arrangements.
    • Stays abreast of new technology in supplies and equipment and evaluates for quality or cost improvements.
    • Develops, justifies, and maintains the budget. Monitors patient revenues, expenses, and operating expenses, and provides appropriate reports to Administration.
    • Prepares documentation and participates in evaluating and acquiring capital equipment and supplies.
    • Consults with administration concerning capital expenditures, staffing requirements, and other department needs.
    • Responsible for space planning, maintenance, procurement of supplies, and contract services.
    • Develops and maintains a Laboratory inventory system; oversees cost control measures in the utilization of department supplies, materials, and equipment.
    • Able to perform all duties in all areas of the Laboratory; covers for absentee staff as appropriate.
    • Performs other relevant duties as assigned.

    WAGE AND COMPENSATION

    Wage range $44.02 hr. - $ 69.74 hr. - DOE

    Mid-Valley Hospital offers a benefit package. This includes accrued vacation time in the amount of vacation hours per hour worked. Accrued sick leave at an accrual of per hour, Life insurance and a profit-sharing plan. We also offer medical, dental and vision insurance plans. Employees can enroll in a 403(b) deferred compensation plan and/or a 457 deferred compensation plan.
