    Opening Date: 02/08/2024Position SummaryBig Bend Community College, a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Manufacturing & Process Technology (MPT) Instructor.

    This position is part of the Industry, Manufacturing, and Trades Division.

    We are looking for a person prepared and interested in teaching a variety of industrial systems courses for mechanical maintenance technology, mechatronics, and/or manufacturing students.

    The instructor will have responsibility for teaching courses; such as, machining; hydraulics; instrumentation; automation; mechanical power transmission; PLCs; hydraulic, pneumatic, and vacuum systems.

    Essential Job DutiesESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
    Prepare and teach Manufacturing/Industrial Systems courses. Teaching assignments are based on college needs and include day, evening, weekend, and on or off campus assignments.

    Instruct, assist, and motivate students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.

    Adapt to a variety of teaching situations including diverse student abilities and preparedness. Demonstrate, teach, and enforce proper lab techniques and safe work habits and safety rules in the labs.

    Advise students; assist students in planning an educational program and in selecting courses, and when necessary, refer students to appropriate student services for assistance.

    Participate as an active member of working committees dealing with instruction, college-wide and department assessment, student matters, and college-related concerns.

    Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth, development, and conduct.
    Remain current with subject matter, instructional methodology, educational technology, and emerging trends within industrial maintenance and repair. Participate in ongoing professional development related to industry certification for teaching and accreditation of the program under national standards. Update curriculum as required to meet industry needs.
    Provide access to students through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods.
    Develop and maintain positive and effective partnerships with industry.
    Provide advice and support for adjunct faculty in conjunction with the department. Obtain and maintain required Washington State vocational teaching certification upon hire.


    Minimum & Desirable QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    A combination of professional work experience, education, and/or training in a relevant field (e.g. manufacturing, maintenance mechanic, electrical maintenance, etc.) equal to 5 years.
    Experience working directly with individuals from diverse backgrounds.


    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
    Documented recent/frequent industry training and/or current industry-recognized certifications or the ability to attain within six months of hire.

    Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS).Experience with the operation of industrial automation and robotic equipment and/or systems integration; related industry certifications.

    Experience using digital design tools for modeling, drafting, circuit design, or manufacturing. Experience teaching at a community college.

    Demonstrated knowledge of current theory and common practices in the trade and the ability to instruct students/trainee on these topics.

    Experience implementing innovative teaching/training methods and strategies to improve student/trainee success and retention. Experience with online learning, hybrid courses, and learning management systems (LMS).Experience working in a team-teaching environment.
    Bilingual Spanish/English proficiency.

    Applicants selected for a final interview may be required to give a short (approximately 10-15 minute) teaching demonstration on a topic selected by the college


    COMPENSATION:


    Salary placement for candidates with journey credentials from an appropriate program of certification OR verification of at least five (5) years full-time relevant work experience related to the position begins at $73,622 for a 173-day contract, September to June.

    Additional degrees, experience, and state-funded and negotiated increases will increase the salary. This position is eligible for a legislature funded High Demand stipend. Stipend amounts are negotiated with the BBCC Faculty Association. The current stipend amount is $8,000. This position is exempt from overtime. This is a union represented position subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Placement on the Salary Index Matrix (SIM) is in accordance with the BBCC Faculty Association Negotiated Agreement.

    Big Bend offers candidates a straight-forward, supportive tenure process with three years to the first promotion along with generous support and funding for professional development.

    Our faculty benefit from a connection to a statewide network of conferences to enhance instruction. The anticipated start date for this position is September 9, 2024.
