- Marine invertebrate (preferably acoelomorph) husbandry
- C. elegans husbandry and genetics
- Confocal or fluorescence microscopy
- Classical developmental biology/embryology methods, and/or molecular biology techniques such as PCR and nucleic acid purification
- Maintaining the breeding acoelomorph colony, including tank maintenance and feeding of adult and juvenile animals
- Conducting molecular biology experiments on development and regeneration using pharmacological inhibitors or protein treatments
- Characterizing gene expression patterns using immunofluorescence and in situ hybridization
- Completing other lab tasks as necessary
- Offering molecular biology support for the lab, including plasmid purification, nucleic acid isolation, and molecular cloning
- Assisting in caring for the breeding colony
- Performing experiments on cell proliferation dynamics using DNA labeling reagents and immunofluorescence
- Managing lab inventories and other tasks as required

Description
The Pani Lab in the Department of Biology at the University of Virginia is looking for two Lab Research Technician 2 positions specialized in cell biology and regeneration.
The Pani lab focuses on studying acoelomorph flatworms and C. elegans to explore the cellular mechanisms involved in development, homeostasis, and regeneration. The Lab Research Technicians being sought will play a key role in both scientific research and lab management.
The ideal candidates should be highly self-motivated individuals with a strong passion for basic science. They should be deeply engaged in their research topics and possess previous experience in managing independent research projects, whether as undergraduate students or technicians. A Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field is highly preferred.
