Responsibilities
The Hourly Data Analyst II will assist in analyzing enteric disease cases in Central New York's rural counties for a developing research project. Duties will include participation in a multi-team/multi-program collaborative environment including but, not limited to: learning and utilizing data applications on the New York State Dept of Health's Health Commerce System (HCS), analyzing rural case data using Excel, communicating data outcomes through webinars or email to the Central New York Epidemiology Team and/or other public health partners, learning and/or applying knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) software, research into emerging public health issues that impact enteric disease rates (i.e.- climate change), assisting in the development of a working hypothesis generating survey, assisting in the potential re-interviewing of enteric cases using a working hypothesis generating survey and other Communicable Disease tasks as necessary (i.e.- interviewing cases during a potential outbreak scenario).
Enteric Pathogens include Campylobacter, Cryptosporidium, Cyclosporas, Giardia, Yersinia, and others. This position offers opportunities to listen in on New York State Communicable Disease call, Enteric Office Hours calls, and many other education trainings.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a public health, statistics, biology, or epidemiology major or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with Microsoft Office. Knowledge of data analysis and data management using SAS or Excel. Experience with foodborne illness investigations. Experience with public health data management systems. Experience with GIS Mapping Software (i.e. Esri, ArcGIS).
Conditions of Employment
Grant funded, hourly position expected to last through 08/30/2024. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Travel, up to 10% of the time, will be required.
This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will not be available.
