- Maintains constant supervision of children.
- Supervises assistant teacher, floaters, and volunteers in the classroom environment.
- Plans developmentally appropriate activities balancing children's needs for individual and group activities, physical and quiet play, and child initiated and teacher-initiated activities.
- Maintains an individual portfolio assessment system on each child and conducts parent conferences twice a year or as needed.
- Plans, organizes, and attends trainings, workshops, and events designed for families of First Presbyterian Day School.
- Gives each child the attention needed to assure his/her best welfare including needs related to learning experiences, eating, toileting, sleeping, playing, health care and safety.
- Maintains accurate attendance reports and other center and child records.
- Prepares, implements, and gathers educational materials required to implement the program.
- Maintains cleanliness classrooms, bathrooms, storage areas, kitchen, and playground in a neat and organized manner.
- Works as a team to ensure all licensing, health and sanitation and accreditation standards are met.
- Assist in preparations of daily meals, if needed while maintaining sanitation rules/regulations and the Child and Adult Food Care Program requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, classrooms, bathrooms, and other assigned areas.
- Maintains accurate record keeping for attendance, CACFP (food program), and other programs and agencies as needed for the class assigned.
- Participates in professional development based on NC license rules and regulations, DPI expectations, LEA requirements, and FPDS staff evaluations and Professional Development plan.
- Collaborates with internal and external individuals, agencies and initiatives related to the Child Development Center or Early Care and Education field.
- During non-NC-PreK class days, may serve as substitutes for other FPDS Staff.
- Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
- NC Childcare Credential Certificate or willing to enroll in the NC Early Childhood Apprenticeship program through Building Bright Futures .
- CPR and First Aide Certification or willing to be CPR and First Aide trained.
- One year of experience working with young children preferred.
- Ability to relate well with children.
- Computer proficient with an understanding of basic math
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to read and write simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group environments.
- Ability to utilize a wide variety of data such as NC Childcare rules and regulations, sanitation requirements, etc.

*We are currently seeking an Early Childhood Teacher (Infant/Toddler) in Durham, NC*. This is a 12-month position working Monday – Friday.
In this key role as Early Childhood Teacher, you will educate and supervise children within a play-based, developmentally appropriate early care and education environment.
You will ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all the children and instruct them in activities designed to promote social/ emotional, physical, and intellectual growth.
