Senior Backend Engineer Building an audio-focused Gen Z mobile app at Google/Snap/TikTok alumni startup mayk is looking for a part- or full-time contracted senior software engineer with a minimum of 3+ years of large-scale backend development experience to join a newly funded, experienced consumer social app team in shaping the future of casual music creation.

mayk is on a mission to democratize music creation.

We started mayk because we realized there were too many barriers to entry when it came to music production, and too many voices going unheard.

To fix that, were building an innovative, easy-to-use music creation tool to democratize sonic creativity on mobile by giving anyone the ability to create their own unique music and sound snippets.

Were making music production as simple and accessible as Instagram and TikTok made photography and videography.

We want everyone to bring their song ideas from inception to [full-blown studio production] completion, and we want you to help us build the future of music As for the team, were a mostly LA-based / partially US and EUR distributed team of music-obsessed former Google, Snap and TikTok leads creating the next wave of 2020s social media.

Who were looking for:
Were looking for an architect to help us build mayk to scale to millions of users and beyond.

Were on GCP and use Firestore, Postgres, Redis, Kotlin (Ktor), Typescript, and more Come help decide what we should use next 3+ years of large-scale backend development required.

Some data engineering and pipeline development experience is a plus. Were building an easy-to-use mobile music studio with a full social network and are looking for a strong backend engineer who is looking to grow with our team

someone who can help build code, discuss system architecture, collaborate with product/design, and help solve hard problems as we scale.

Theres plenty of opportunity here for large ownership, autonomy, and leadership as we grow.


Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or similar experience) 3+ years of relevant backend software development and architecture experience Strong familiarity with GCP or AWS.

We use GCP, so being comfortable with that is a bonus, but a really good understanding of AWS equivalent tools and a willingness to learn is cool too :
-). Ability to design and write robust, testable code at a high quality bar. Ready to work in a fast-paced startup environment with a rapidly-growing team. Passion for music and helping others make things.
