    Your Opportunity

    Stantec is seeking an environmental consultant/project manager recognized for technical excellence in southeastern ecology, with a specific focus on Florida. Qualified candidates will be expected to provide technical expertise in field data collection (e.g., wetlands, habitats, wildlife, water quality), assessment, planning, regulatory consultation, environmental permitting, and restoration projects and develop and maintain client relationships in Florida. This candidate will also provide technical expertise to our clients and Florida staff that includes accomplished biologists, ecologists, water resource specialists and engineers. This position will have the opportunity to assist and/or lead a variety of projects within the power, oil and gas, land management and real estate, mining, and transportation sectors. Position is based in the Tampa Bay area and projects work will include activities throughout the state and the southeastern U.S.

    Our staff include specialists in wetland science, threatened and endangered species surveys, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), cultural resources, hydrogeology, engineering, habitat and ecosystem restoration, environmental remediation, and GIS. We help our clients identify constraints and respond to opportunities within the changing regulatory and corporate environment through active engagement with the public, stakeholder groups, and government regulators. Our team members are involved in a variety of projects that may include Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) delineations and permitting, endangered species habitat assessments and surveys, NEPA, siting and routing studies, stream assessments and sampling, habitat restoration, siting and zoning applications, and complex planning and permitting for a variety of industries including renewable energy, transportation, power, government and development.

    Your Key Responsibilities:

    • Design and implementation of ecological surveys and habitat evaluations, including wetland delineations, general species surveys, species specific surveys, and water quality studies
    • Strategic planning related to site location, avoidance, consultation, permitting, mitigation, and restoration
    • Regulatory consultation with the USACE, FDEP, Water Management Districts, USFWS, FWC, county, and local agencies
    • Regulatory permitting (USACE, FDEP, Water Management Districts, USFWS, FWC, county, and local)
    Your Capabilities and Credentials
    • Proficient in wetland and waterbody delineation, assessment, and regulatory consultation and permitting, (use of UMAM, recognition as a PWS preferred)
    • Proficient in wetland and waterbody restoration planning and monitoring
    • Proficient in habitat assessments, species-specific presence/absence surveys, USFWS and FWC consultations, and incidental take permitting processes (recognition as an Authorized Gopher Tortoise Agent preferred)
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to work well with internal staff and a wide range of clients in a fast-paced work environment
    • Comfortable using computers, tablets and hand-held GPS units or other similar GPS based survey equipment
    DesiredCapabilities and Credentials:
    • Authorized Gopher Tortoise Agent (survey, bucket trapping, live trapping, hand shoveling, mark, transport, and release, burrow excavations using mechanical equipment, burrow scoping).
    • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS)
    • Wetland delineator with experience defending lines set under USACE and FDEP methodologies
    • Energy sector experience including applicant side representation (FERC, NRC, RUS)
    • NEPA experience (categorical exclusions, environmental assessments, environmental impact statements)
    • Development of biological assessments and/or biological opinions
    • Development of habitat or resource equivalency analyses
    • Development of habitat conservation plans
    Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's or Master's in natural resources, environmental sciences or related field
    • Minimum of 5 years of related experience required
    Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
