    Job Summary

    The Surgical Tech First Assistant combines duties of Certified Surgical Technologist and First Assistant in major surgeries. This person is crucial to surgical teams during complex procedures, working collaboratively with a Registered Nurse. In the role of First Assistant, they work closely under surgeon guidance, with dynamic responsibilities and growth opportunities within a supportive team.

    What You'll Do

  • Ensure supplies, equipment, instruments are ready, open, and working well for each procedure.
  • You'll update preference cards based on surgeon's preferences. Cards list equipment, supplies, and notes for current and future procedures.
  • You will work with surgeons before the procedure to discuss equipment and supply needs. You will assist in creating instrument trays.
  • Prepare the operating room according to the surgical schedule. Arrange sterile instruments and supplies for each procedure required.
  • You will perform quality assurance procedures on equipment and report any issues found.
  • You will assist the surgeon during surgery by providing sterile supplies and anticipating the team's needs.
  • Handle surgical specimens per protocol, notify nurse about source material, then deliver to correct location.

    Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited program is mandatory.
  • A minimum of four years of experience
  • Applicants must have Basic Life Support certification or must secure one within 30 days of joining the team.
  • You must be certified as a Surgical Technologist or Surgical First Assistant by either NBSTSA or NCCT.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION - Grad of an Accredited Program
  • EXPERIENCE - 4 Years of Experience
  • CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION

  • Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • Cert Surgical First Asst (CSFA), Cert Surgical Technologist (CST): Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or CSFA (Certified Surgical First Assistant) required from NBSTA or NCCT.
