Ambulatory Services | OSU Outpatient Surgery Center Scope of Position

The Surgical Technologist (ST) functions as an integral member of a team of care providers in the Operating Rooms of the Ohio State University Surgery Center.

The ST is generally assigned to perform the scrub role in various surgical procedures and also performs routine unit tasks.

The ST follows universal precautions, safe handling guidelines, and all other infection control standards. They maintain a clean/organized perioperative unit. The ST promotes a positive attitude to staff, families, and patient/guests as well as maintains patient confidentiality.

The ST is an unclassified professional staff position working under direct supervision of PCC-RN and under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager.

The ST performs all tasks in a manner that is cost effective without compromising quality of care, meets hospital continuing education and certification requirements, & upholds goals and objectives of the OSU Surgery Center.

HS Graduate or Equivalent or equivalent combination of education and experience

Must be a high school graduate or possess the GED, and must have completed formal Surgical Technology Training Program or the equivalent.

Previous experience in the Operating Room as Surgical Technologist is preferred.
