    Superior Tank Co., Inc. is currently seeking individuals to join our field installation crews. This position is based in Bakersfield, CA. We are looking for someone who is prompt, dependable, and knowledgeable in construction/safety to join our team. As a Field Foreman will lead and supervise a crew of tank erectors in building and/or repairing above ground welded steel storage tanks.

    Travel Requirements: Travel to different job sites including traveling within California as well as out of state.

    Role and Responsibilities

    Perform and supervise the crew on the following tasks:

    · Provide direction to team mates to ensure all work is completed in a timely and organized manner.

    · Assembles and erects pre-manufactured parts at job site to construct welded steel storage tanks: Install tanks based on reference points from blueprints, diagrams, and other specifications, using measuring instruments.

    · Read blueprints and drawings, take and read measurements to plan layout and procedures

    · Read and interpret technical documents and drawings as needed

    · Determine appropriate welding equipment / method based on the requirements of the job

    · Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)

    · Monitor equipment functionality and report maintenance needs

    · Maintain vehicle in good working and keep maintenance of vehicle current

    · Communicate any deficiencies to Division Manager / Operations Manager

    · Operate man lift, reach lift, fork lift and other equipment as needed

    · Load and off load material from trailers using a reach lift or fork lift

    · Use a map or an electronic map for directions

    · Install and remove scaffolding as needed

    · Work at heights, using fall protection and specially designed tank scaffolding.

    · Ascend and descend ladders.

    · Maintain personal tools required in the welding trade

    · Plan jobs and assist with scheduling work

    · Utilize a cutting torch to perform job tasks

    · Assist Division Manager and Operations Manager as needed

    · Assist with housekeeping before leaving work location for the day

    · Maintain cleanliness of assigned work area

    · Be responsible for personal and crew safety at all times.

    · Perform additional duties as assigned.

    · Operate cranes up to 90 tons. (NCCCO Crane Certified)

    · Cut openings for drains, outlets, fill pipes, and manholes, using drills and saws.

    · May install mechanical agitators, baffles or other flow divergent parts in the tank.

    · Over time may be required.

    · Able to work in confined spaces and follow applicable safety guidance.

    Supervisor Responsibilities:

    · Supervise a 4-man crew.

    · Responsible for submitting daily and weekly work logs for crew/project.

    · Responsible for crew safety, safe jobsite conditions, and ensuring crew is working safely at all times.

    · Responsible for reporting any unsafe conditions and unsafe crewman behavior.

    · Complete the crewman's performance reviews.

    Essential functions required to perform duties are as follows:

    · Must be able to work on feet for extended periods of time.

    · Must be able to work out of town for extended periods of time. (2-6 weeks at a time)

    · Spanish bi-lingual is preferred.

    · Valid Class C License.

    · Able to manage, delegate, and oversee tasks of the crewmen.

    · Able to travel in company vehicle for long periods of time.

    · Team Player and work well with others.

    Tank Installation/Repair:

    · Routinely walking, bending over, and kneeling down.

    · Work from tank scaffolding with fall protection.

    · Raise scaffolding from one level to the next up to 10' intervals.

    · Intermediate vibration exposure when operating pneumatic and electric tools.

    · Repetitive hand movements and body movements.

    · Repeatedly ascending and descending ladders.

    · Lift work up to 50 lbs. to shoulder level or above. Additional weight handling is assessed for safety based on specific tasks.

    · Uneven ground conditions and elevations, not flat work and repetitive crouching and standing, reaching above head

    · Able to work with hearing protection in loud conditions while using hand and power tools. (hammers, pneumatic tools, compressors, etc.)

    · Moderate pulling and pushing (materials, block and tackle, etc.)

    · Proficient in SMAW, FCAW, and SAW welding process.

    · Work in confined spaces.

    · May require use of N95 mask.

    · General laborer duties.

    Operation of Equipment:

    · Leading the crew in unloading the trailer of tank parts, sometimes with auxiliary crane, forklift or by hand.

    · Leading the crew in unloading the truck with tools, parts and equipment.

    · Must be able to operate submerged Arc welding equipment.

    · Crane Operator NCCCO Certification (REQUIRED)

    · Operate Equipment (all terrain reach forklift).

    · Drive company truck with valid Driver's License.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    · Five (5) years of welding experience

    · Current Passport Training

    · Current Chevron BU training, including OPL

    · Current Confined Space Training

    · Current PLW Training

    · Valid CDL

    · Willing to work out of town, weekends and overtime when needed

    · Knowledge of tank building (API 650 and AWWA)

    · Knowledge of tank repair (API 650, API 653 and AWWA)

    · Understand tank floor, shell and roof layout. Degrees and elevations

    · Understand tank coating processes and products

    · Able to clearly communicate verbally and written

    · Understand materials, plate, flanges, bolts, gaskets etc.

    · Able to operate manlift, reach lift, forklift and other equipment

    · Able to haul a trailer containing material, and properly secure material

    · Strong attention to detail

    · Able to work in both hot and cold temperatures

    · Able to work at heights, erect and dismantle tank scaffolding

    · Able to work with hearing protection in loud conditions while using hand and power tools. (Grinders, hammers, pneumatic tools, compressors, etc.)

    · Able to weld and pass weld test with 6010, 7018, 7024 and NR 211 wire minimum

    Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time non-exempt position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, overtime required when needed.
