- Must be able to get along and cooperate with co-workers, be able to work as a team member and think quickly. The lifeguard must act appropriately in emergency situations and accept changes as they occur.
- Punctuality and good attendance is required.
- Enforce all state, local and Park District pool regulations.
- Understand all StarGuard procedures and techniques and be ready to implement when necessary.
- Carry out maintenance procedures to keep pool, locker room, and other areas clean.
- Take necessary steps to ensure a safe environment for the guests.
- Carry through and complete all additional duties as prescribed by the Managers.
- Supports DTPD's Mission Statement, by providing excellent service to the community.

- Maintains a working knowledge of all general and departmental-specific safety rules.
- Reports any work-related injuries to supervisor promptly.
- Immediately reports all accidents and unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
- Attends all required safety program and in-service education meetings.
- Treats public complaints and concerns with the utmost attention. Is courteous in all cases.
- Pays strict attention to housekeeping of work area(s) and general facility.
- Good physical condition, sufficient strength, and mobility required.
- Knowledge and skills in technology, or the ability to learn.
- Possess good problem solving skills and has capacity to act rationally and calmly in high stress and/or emergencies.
- Ability to work a varied schedule including some nights and weekends as required.
- Ability to pay meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to execute the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to swim 200 yards.
- Ability to retrieve a 10 lb. brick from the bottom of 12ft.
- Tread water for 2 minutes.
- Hours vary - range from 9:00am through 10:00pm Sunday through Saturday.
- A set schedule will be available.
- The Aquatic Lifeguard position is a summer seasonal position.
- Weekend or holiday hours may be required as well as extended hours as needed.

Position Description
The Lifeguard works under the direction of the Pool Managers. Responsibilities include the enforcement of safety rules, the rescue of distressed guests and the teaching of swim lessons. Work is performed in accordance with a prescribed program and established procedures with some opportunity for the exercise of independent judgment. This is an at-will position.
