The Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability Facility Operations & Planning Team seeks a full-time Facilities Manager at Hopkins Marine Station (HMS) located in Pacific Grove, California. For more than 130 years, HMS has been a renowned marine biological station for Stanford's faculty, students, and staff. The proactive, solutions-orientated Facilities Manager will oversee, manage, and coordinate a wide array of station facilities & health/safety needs associated with elevating operational standards in alignment with Stanford University's policies & procedures. Additionally, SDSS is developing a long-range vision for the future of HMS. This position will play an integral role in the development of the vision and modernization of the Station. HMS facilities are located in a coastal environment and include multiple buildings ranging from experimental laboratories, a library, and a fleet of vehicles & vessels. The Facilities Manager will ensure the physical infrastructure is operating effectively in support of the Station's teaching and research operations and will be the on-site representative to regulatory agencies. This on-site position provides a fantastic opportunity to manage multiple interdisciplinary facilities in partnership with HMS staff, Land Buildings & Real Estate, and Environmental Health & Safety. Your Responsibilities will include:
      Day-to-day building readiness including proactive customer service; ServiceNow work order management; building inspections; vendor & service contract managementForward-facing customer service support to campus occupants on a wide range of facilities needsCollaboration with campus and external partners to ensure HMS buildings are maintained effectivelyExperimental lab facility support in coordination with campus partners and lab management staff, faculty, and studentsImplementation of sustainable building initiativesOperationalization of facility security programs, such as card reader security access control along with key management/distributionFacility project coordination, overseeing and executing (small and local) projects which includes organization, scheduling, budgeting, and implementationIntegrating long-range facilities planning into the stationResponsiveness as the facility emergency preparedness & response point of contact for on-call campus support including after-hoursSpace and asset management coordination including supporting the inventory process

    Bachelor's degree and five years related, demonstrated technical facilities management experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
      Analytical skills to analyze and track complex space, equipment, and financial dataInterpersonal skills, and mature judgment required to interact effectively with a broad range of people, including faculty and vendors, both individually and in groupsAbility to coordinate and manage multiple projects with competing priorities, meet deadlines, and project plans with short- and long-term end datesWorking knowledge of applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and ProjectExperience working with internal and external vendors and services contractingBackground knowledge of safe handling and disposal of chemicals and hazardous waste; emergency preparedness plans and their implementation; and property administration specific to PO tracking, receiving, and inventory control
    Certifications and Licenses:
      Valid California Non-commercial Class Driver's license

      Knowledge of Stanford University systems and policiesExperience managing a complex academic site in a coastal/marine environmentExperience managing facilities under multiple land use and environmental regulating agencies Ability to influence outcomes without authorityAbility to independently respond to emergency situations including during off-hoursSound experience and judgment to plan for and manage site security and emergency response
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
      Frequently stands/walks, is seated, and performs desk-based computer tasks.Occasionally climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, use a telephone, write by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 20 poundsRarely; kneel/crawl, grasp forcefully, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class Driver's license and drive day or night.

    The expected pay range for this position is $83,000 to $128,000 per annum.Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
