    Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

    Student Health Services (SHS) provides primary and mental health care for UNC Greensboro
    students. As a health organization operating within an academic institution, we are committed
    to the support of the educational, research, and service missions of the University.

    Position Summary

    The Wellbeing Specialist for Health Promotion, Prevention, and Early Intervention is responsible for promoting and providing services and programming around the eight dimensions of wellness, designed to challenge and support students' personal growth, academic success, and well-being. Services and programming will be focused on the promotion of well-being, as well as prevention, early intervention, bystander intervention, and recovery for concerns such as interpersonal violence, suicide prevention and mental health, sexual health, alcohol, and other drugs. The well-being specialist will ensure that programming and services are fully engaged in, compliant with, and leading national best practices and other industry standards related to the field. The Wellbeing Specialist will conduct appropriate assessments to identify and better understand the attitudes, habits, and environmental risk factors within the community. Research and maintain current web-based and text resources. Serve on university-wide and/or departmental committees as appropriate. Engage in long-term strategic planning within the DSA for this functional area. Supervise interns or graduate assistants in the areas of wellness. Collaborate with the Associate Director to complete annual reports and other assessment needs. Collaborate and work in an integrated manner with all other wellness and wellbeing areas on campus to provide seamless programming and services through the intersection of topics such as mental health, alcohol, drugs, interpersonal violence, and integrated wellness.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Master's Degree in Public Health Education, Social Work, Counseling, or a similar degree
    • 3-5 years, post-master experience with the college student population and knowledge about issues relevant to college students
    • Demonstrated proficiency in and a commitment to multicultural competence and experience working with individuals from culturally diverse populations, as well as underrepresented and/or underserved populations
    • Demonstrated understanding and application of the intersectionality of identity and well-being
    • Demonstrated proficiency in delivering wellbeing programming and services
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues and team members
    • Ability to work effectively with young adults
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Expertise in the area of suicide prevention, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and/or interpersonal violence
    • Clinical experience or background in the area of suicide prevention, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and/or interpersonal violence
    • Experience in college/university settings in the areas of Health Promotion, Prevention, and Early Intervention
    • Certification as a health and wellness coach through a national certification body
