    POSITION SUMMARY
    The Assistant Ski Patrol Director is responsible for leading daily patrol operations, ensuring safety, emergency response, staff supervision, training, and administrative duties. This position also needs a broad understanding of Snowmaking, Grooming, Lift Operations, and Summer Mountain/Bike Operations to make informed decisions. When the Director is absent, this role will lead the department and contribute significantly to emergency response, operational readiness, and continuous improvement of patrol functions. This position can be classified as seasonal, flex-year-round, or year-round, with compensation ranging from $50,000 to $65,000 annually, depending on experience.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Leadership & People Management:
      • Supervise, coach, and support Patrol staff during winter ski operations and summer bike patrol operations.
      • Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, payroll, and development of patrol personnel.
      • Provide daily direction, delegate tasks, and oversee operations.
      • Participate in performance feedback, reviews, and corrective action processes alongside the Director.
      • Maintain visibility on the mountain and set an example of professionalism, safety, and accountability.
    • Mountain Operations & Coordination:
      • Coordinate daily mountain operations with Snowmaking, Grooming, Lift Operations, Activities, and Summer Operations teams.
      • Attend daily Mountain Operations meetings and represent Ski Patrol when the Director is unavailable.
      • Contribute to determining terrain openings/closures, weather responses, trail conditions, and guest safety.
      • Facilitate seasonal transitions between winter and summer operations, including staffing readiness.
    • Emergency Response & Patrol Operations:
      • Respond to on-mountain emergencies such as medical incidents, rescues, and injuries.
      • Provide emergency medical care and documentation per regulations and protocols.
      • Support emergency responses for summer lift-served biking operations.
      • Engage in advanced rescue operations including backcountry rescue and accident investigations.
      • Operate snowmobiles or other patrol-related vehicles as necessary.
      • Participate in emergency preparedness drills and evacuation procedures.
    • Operational & Administrative Oversight:
      • Assist in developing patrol staffing schedules for operational readiness.
      • Review and approve timecards in compliance with payroll guidelines and labor regulations.
      • Participate in seasonal staffing planning and performance evaluations.
      • Adhere to departmental budgets and staffing plans as set by the Director & VP of Operations.
      • Monitor labor utilization and staffing efficiency.
      • Ensure compliance and accurate documentation for patrol operations.
    • Training, Compliance & Development:
      • Support training programs, certifications, and continuing education for patrol staff.
      • Assist in operational readiness drills and safety training.
      • Ensure compliance with state regulations, medical protocols, and resort safety standards.
      • Maintain required certifications and stay updated on industry best practices.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education preferred.
    • 3-5 years of ski patrol experience with increasing responsibility and proven leadership.
    • Current Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certification, with EMR, EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic preferred.
    • Advanced skiing or snowboarding skills.
    • Proficient in toboggan operations.
    • Experience with summer patrol or bike operations preferred.

    QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

    • Ability to lead and supervise teams in a fast-paced, high-risk environment.
    • Strong judgment and decision-making skills during emergencies.
    • Effective communication and collaboration across departments and levels of leadership.
    • Ability to manage competing priorities while ensuring safety and service quality.
    • Must possess a valid US driver's license with a good driving record.
    • High physical fitness level to meet ski and bike patrol demands.

    This position requires weekend, holiday, and occasional evening work for special events. All candidates must be able to perform essential duties effectively with or without reasonable accommodations.
