    Job Description: Science Teacher at North Cook Young Adult Academy

    North Cook Young Adult Academy is an alternative program supporting school districts in northern Cook County, Illinois, catering to students in grades 6 through 12. The academy's mission is to offer second chances through different educational opportunities.

    Qualifications:

    • Applicants should hold a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and possess a valid Illinois Educator License with an endorsement in General Science or another Science-related area.
    • Preference will be given to candidates with unique competencies that can enhance the academy's program quality, such as multiple Illinois State teaching certifications or experience in successful innovative programs.

    Reports to: The Science Teacher reports to the Principal.

    Responsibilities:

    Instruction/Classroom Teaching

    • Implement individualized programs for each student in the Alternative Education Program (AEP).
    • Provide instruction using an approved curriculum, focusing on specific skill areas for a diverse student population.
    • Prepare supplementary instructional materials for enhanced learning opportunities.
    • Assess student learning progress.
    • Utilize various teaching techniques to engage students.

    Professional Responsibilities:

    • Hold students accountable for academic performance.
    • Maintain accurate records including grade book, progress reports, and more.
    • Participate in parent/teacher conferences and communicate student progress to parents.
    • Attend staff meetings and professional development seminars.
    • Adhere to academy policies and procedures diligently.
    • Complete assigned responsibilities from supervisors.

    Learning Environment:

    • Support colleagues and students in their learning processes.
    • Hold students accountable for their behavior.
    • Implement behavior management plans.
    • Maintain a conducive learning environment in classrooms and the school.

    Work Hours:

    • All staff follow a 71⁄2-hour workday with school hours from 7:15AM to 2:45PM.
    • Compensation and Terms of Employment: Salary based on experience with full benefits like health, vision, dental, and life insurance for this TRS position.
