- Oversees all aspects of the Transportation Department functions in accordance with policies and practices of the Corporation. Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs and evaluates all aspects of the organization's transportation functional performance including outbound freight, fleet maintenance, and employee performance.
- Responsible for enforcement and compliance with federal DOT laws and regulations, drug and alcohol standards and programs, licensing, and safety programs.
- Directs and supervises assigned staff and is responsible for personal career development through coaching, goal setting, performance evaluations, and training. Evaluates the department plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth opportunities. Responsible for implementing succession plan for the transportation department.
- Responsible for safe, timely, and efficient delivery of products to customers. Addresses delivery concerns and takes appropriate action to ensure exceptional customer experience so company standards for customer satisfaction are met.
- Responsible for strategic planning and directing the technical logistics activities, methods, and practices for the most efficient operation.
- Develops, implements, and monitors department budget. Monitors all departmental expenses to ensure economical management of distribution and delivery services while incurring minimal expenses.
- Demonstrate logistics leadership through awareness of Industry leading edge, practices, and process improvements.
- Addresses transportation issues inter-departmentally to ensure resolution of problems and ensures all pertinent information is communicated.
- Evaluates routes to improve customer service and adapts to changing business needs.
- Supervises staff and initials all disciplinary and adverse actions.
- Attends company meetings.
- Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.
- Reports to supervisors on all aspects of the transportation department.
- Reviews delivery of product received by stores.
- Visual requirements include: ability to see detail at near range with or without correction.
- Must be physically able to perform light work: occasionally lifting or carrying objects of no more than 20 pounds, and frequent standing or walking.
- Must be able to perform the following physical activities: stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
- Proven ability to take a concept, utilize an array of resources, and bring it to full expression.
- Must have the ability to perform logical or scientific thinking to solve problems; several abstract and concrete variables.
- Must be able to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Must be able to report, write, or edit articles for publication; interview, counsel or advise people; and evaluate technical data.

General Function
Develops, implements, and maintains transportation processes; and works with Vice President in directing and developing program operations including planning, staffing, budgeting and complying with established requirements.
Reporting Relations
Accountable and Reports to: Vice President, Transportation
Positions that Report to you: Route Drivers; Truck Shop Supervisor; Dispatchers
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
High School or equivalent with secondary education or 4 year degree preferred. Training in logistics or distribution beneficial. Knowledge FMCSA regulations.
Physical Requirements
The duties for this position are conducted in a general office environment. There is frequent pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities. Requires ability to work holidays and be on call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
Equipment Used to Perform Job
Standard office equipment including telephone, 10-key calculator, copier, fax, PC with word processing and spreadsheet software.
