    Description

    Bethel School District is seeking qualified applicants for an 8 hour per day Office Coordinator III for Bethel's Special Service Transportation Department.

    The Router/Dispatcher supports students by performing duties related to the safe and efficient routing and transportation of students served by Bethel's Special Services programs.

    Nature of Work

    This is a combination of office direction and coordination work, advanced clerical work, and specialized administrative tasks to support the Transportation Department.

    Positions of this class organize, direct, and participate in the workflow of a department, while providing clerical assistance to the Transportation Supervisor.

    Work is performed within general policies and practices established by the District administrative office or supervisor. Positions of this class, however, may develop workflow procedures and use independent judgment in accomplishing assigned tasks. The type of work may vary depending on the work cycle of the school year.

    Accuracy and neatness are generally required of such positions, as an error could result in serious consequences for a student, school or the District.

    Essential functions of the job
    These duties are illustrative only. Other duties may be assigned.
    Designs, coordinates, implements, and monitors special services routes
    Creates routing solutions for the safe and efficient transportation of students
    Operates and accesses computerized student information systems, databases and software to assist with developing routes and communicating with staff and families
    Provides relevant and timely information to the Supervisor, Driver and Aides, as needed
    Routinely reviews, corrects and updates schedules and routes to maximize efficient transportation of students
    Collaborates with drivers and the supervisor to develop solutions to routing issues or concerns
    Regularly prepares, reviews and updates reports and information for the District, partnering organizations (Department of Human Services), Department of Education and Department of Transportation
    Drive buses and routes, as needed and determined by student, family and program needs
    Generates information for use in budget development, state reports, grant funding, billing and dispatch
    Provides routing and scheduling information to assist with the supervision and evaluation of department personnel
    Maintains route-related records and assists with identifying needs and planning for fleet maintenance and purchases
    Receives and processes transportation requests for student transportation
    Assists and trains other staff, as needed, to access routing and scheduling information
    Develops, implements, and monitors routes, runs and stops for maximum safety and efficiency
    Performs other related duties consistent with job description and assignment

    Serves as office manager; receives visitors to the department and answers questions; maintains records; and coordinates and participates in training.

    Orders supplies from; receives and distributes orders; keeps a running inventory of supplies on hand; and coordinates inventory of equipment.

    Knowledge, skills and abilities
    Knowledge of efficient routing practices and concepts
    Knowledge of standards, laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to student transportation Current provisions of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards; the Oregon Motor Vehicle and Oregon Department of Education laws, regulations and guidelines
    Knowledge of special services transportation routing needs and requirements
    Knowledge of specialized equipment that may be required to safely transport students
    Knowledge of principles of safe operation of District vehicles and student transportation
    Knowledge of required software including, but not limited to MS Office, Google Suite, student information systems, District financial management system (Infinite Visions) and routing software
    Ability to quickly and efficiently learn streets and roads within the District and for any program served by Bethel Transportation
    Ability to read a map and navigate electronic map services
    Ability to learn District policies applicable to the safe operation of vehicles and transportation of students
    Ability to learn and efficiently operate the District's computerized transportation routing system(s)
    Ability to use radio systems to communicate with drivers
    Ability to assist assigning equipment and buses to safely transport students in the most efficient manner
    Ability to work efficiently and accurately with minimal supervision
    Ability to drive a fleet vehicle safely and efficiently
    Knowledge of the principles and practices of office management, modern office procedures, and clerical practices as required by the position
    Knowledge of the operation of standard office equipment used by the position
    Ability to organize, coordinate and direct a variety of office support activities
    Ability to interpret and apply District and school operating policies
    Ability to organize and maintain a variety of student and department records in an effective and efficient manner
    Ability to maintain an appropriate and legal level of confidentiality regarding students, staff, and other individuals
    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, administrators, parents, and co-workers
    Ability to maintain regular, predictable and prompt attendance
    Minimum Qualifications
    High school diploma or equivalent
    Three years of experience in routing and dispatching
    Three years of experience as a school bus operator
    Possession of a valid State of Oregon School Bus Driver's license
    Possession of a valid first-aid card
    Successful clearance of background check, including FBI fingerprints, and drug screening
    Experience working in diverse communities
    Highly Desirable Qualifications
    Two years of higher education experience
    Spanish and English bilingual abilities
    Knowledge of the Bethel Community
