- Knowledgeable and proficient with the content of standard of care. Identifies problems in the research design, analysis, methodology and trends in patient reactions to treatment. Collects, organizes, catalogs, disseminates, and maintains appropriate files of current data.
- Assists in the development of research question, design, and methodology. Assists in writing and/or editing, organization and management of protocols. Supports protocols at Institutional Review Boards (IRBs).
- Educates patients and their families on research protocol, purpose of the research, procedures, patient responsibilities, answers questions, and discusses risks and benefits of participation. May explain Informed Consent for research protocol(s).
- Develops reports and presents clinical results at local and national meetings and assist in the preparation of research articles for publication in scientific journals.
- Provides patient care including screening, evaluating, and monitoring patients. Prepares patients for office visits and invasive procedures and assists in the implementation of these procedures. Provide patient education on Prostate Cancer, treatments, and Sexual Health as it relates to Prostate Cancer on Multi-Disciplinary Days; Collaborate with NIH physicians to see patients with metastasized Prostate Cancer and evaluate their appropriateness for enrollment in NIH studies. Evaluates the effectiveness of pain management for individual patients and recommends changes in acute pain management.
- Provides assistance, consultation, assessment and monitoring of patients participating in or being evaluated for enrollment in research studies for actual and/or potential health problems.
- Performs examinations and screenings on participating patients and maintains records of results. Prescribes appropriate therapies within the limits established by the protocol.
- Obtains information from patients and their family/caregivers to gather appropriate data including present and past medical history and physical assessment, to be utilized for patient care and documentation. Provides patient/family counseling and education.
- Assists with the management of patient specialty clinics which may include clinic set up, booking appointments, returning phone calls, and handing out appropriate program information and questionnaires.
- Provides feedback to PI to monitor the quality of patient care and issues that affect protocol adherence and program operations.
- Provides emergency care and triages patients, developing processes to continually improve clinical functions, on an as needed basis.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
- Knowledge of procedures and techniques necessary for performing clinical responsibilities related to research protocols.
- Thorough knowledge of health care and patient care.
- Knowledge of the causes of pain and modalities of pain control.
- Ability to take initiative and develop proposal/protocols.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate and complete files on patients.
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance.
- This position will take place primarily in a clinic setting.

- Minimum of 3-5 years experience required

HJF is seeking a Physician Assistant II to support the Murtha Cancer Center Research Program's (MCCRP) Center for Prostate Disease Research (CPDR), located at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD.
The Physician Assistant II helps with all aspects of patient care for prostate disease and cancer, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations.
Will work in outpatient and research situations and performs independently or as part of a treatment team. Educates patients about preventative care and prescribed treatments. Conduct physical exams, orders tests and medications, and serves as a patient's primary healthcare provider.Note:
This position requires U.S. Citizenship.

CPDR is an interdisciplinary translational prostate cancer research program of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) Department of Surgery and the John P.
Established in 1992 (Public Law , CPDR's mission is fulfilled primarily through its three principal programs:
(1) the Clinical Translational Research Center; (2) the Basic Science Research Program, and (3) the Multicenter National Prostate Cancer Database to encompass its clinical research work with participating military medical centers.
