    Job Description:

    The College Advisor for the College Connections Initiative (CCI) will provide services to participants (non-traditional, adult learners and high school students) to increase their college readiness and access to post-secondary options. The College Advisor will facilitate college counseling to support assigned participants with the college application process: college list, college applications, essays, FAFSA/financial aid, academic resume and placement/enrollment into college. The College Advisor will implement service activities as outlined in the current CCI program plan. Candidate must be flexible with scheduling and available Monday - Thursday 1pm to 9pm and Friday 9am-5pm.

    Responsibilities:

    • Conduct outreach and recruitment for CCI participants at high schools, community-based organizations, community events and North Bronx current students and alumni.
    • Assist with the intake process for interested CCI applicants to enroll and engage in post-secondary planning activities.
    • Establish a student action plan for assigned CCI participants to identify service goals and address barriers to participant's post-secondary plans.
    • Provide individual and group counseling to program participants and community members to support with their college readiness and/or career exploration.
    • Deliver weekly/ongoing college advisement sessions for each CCI participant on caseload throughout the college application process.
    • Host monthly college awareness workshops each semester for students enrolled in the center's High School Equivalency (HSE) program.
    • Coordinate plans for college tours and information sessions for CCI program participants and serve as "Lead Chaperone" during college tours.
    • Search and distribute information on college fairs to CCI participants & assist students to register for free college events.
    • Refer CCI participants to on-site ATTAIN Lab to utilize available resource/s for college planning process and vocational trainings.
    • Record and track CCI student services/activities into Banner database system. Utilize internal program tracking tool/s on a daily basis.
    • Develop working relationships with community partners to increase student referrals and request for services.
    • Participate in the establishment of formal partnership agreements.
    • Assist with data collection, review and development of program reports as requested by Supervisor and Executive Director.
    • Participate in individual and staff meetings as facilitated by Supervisor and Executive Director.

    Requirements:

    • Master's Degree required with field of study in Higher Education, Guidance Counseling, Social Work, Human Service, Psychology, Sociology or related discipline.
    • Minimum of 3 years work experience in providing college access and college counseling to underserved students (adult learners, high school and non-traditional students) in an Educational, Community and School-based setting or Workforce Development Program.
    • Strong knowledge of higher education systems and post-secondary options within New York City and State.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships with high school administrators, guidance/college counseling staff, college admissions representatives, community-based organizations and parents.
    • Strong writing and verbal communication skills, organization, presentation, leadership, time management skills are necessary.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, virtual tools (Zoom, Google Teams, etc.) and an aptitude to learn other systems highly desired.
    • Bilingual in English & Spanish a plus.

    Additional Information:

    • Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The range for this position is $55,000-$62,000 annually.
    • This position is SL-3 and is part of the United University Professions Union.
