- Assesses the needs of students with speech or language disorders and matches their needs with programs available through the educational system
- Meets with students regularly according to the treatment program schedule, evaluates, and maintains records of students' progress.
- Reports progress to administrators, teachers, and special education teams and meets with them on a regular basis to discuss their evaluations of students' skills as demonstrated in class performance and social interaction with other students.
- Reports progress to guardians and meets with them regularly; suggests activities guardians can do with their child to assist and supplement the student's speech therapy program; attempts to add to their understanding of the program and answers questions and addresses concerns they may have about it.
- Repeats evaluations on a regular basis to measure progress according to professional guidelines.
- Talks with students to determine their feelings about the program and their progress or any frustrations they may feel about the therapy.
- Establishes and implements small group management structure and rules that ensure academic engagement and the physical and mental safety of all students; ensures safety and security standards for children, staff, and visitors of the school; supervises all students throughout school grounds and on educational trips as necessary.
- Maintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.
- Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in speech-language pathology.
- Recognizes and supports diversity and equity in support of school and district initiatives.
- Maintains an educational philosophy and school climate which encourages a cooperative and participant attitude on the part of all staff and students; celebrates the achievements and successes of students.
- Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars as required.
- Attends work as scheduled and arrives in a timely manner unless a qualified absence has been approved as described in the collective bargaining agreement.
- Performs additional related duties within the scope of this position.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to ensure that students, faculty members, and guardians understand the program and the degree of progress being made.
- Thorough understanding of speech/language development and how it relates to academic instruction.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

JOB FUNCTION
Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats students with speech or language disorders, formulate individualized treatment programs, keep appropriate records, and inform faculty and guardians about students' progress.
This position directly reports to the school principal and functionally reports to the other school administrators and district directors. This position coordinates with the other teachers, instructional coaches, school psychologists, and school social workers along with other support staff, students, guardians, and the community.
TERM
Shall work the 10-month school calendar as defined by the Board of Education and Collective Bargaining Agreement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Master's degree in related subject area; appropriate state license or certification; Speech Language Pathologist Endorsement are required. At least two years of speech pathology work experience in a school setting is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. If requested, reasonable accommodations will be made to enable employees with disabilities to perform the essential functions of their job, absent undue hardship.
