About the job
Knightwerx is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our growing R&D team. As a subject matter expert in mechanism design, the Mechanical Engineer will work within a multi-disciplinary team to develop small unmanned electric aircraft from the ground up. We operate in a fast-paced development environment that balances innovation and ingenuity with practicality and reliability. You will be involved in every aspect of the engineering process from clean-sheet design and prototyping to flight testing and manufacturing.
Requirements
Work Experience
Bachelor's or higher degree in relevant engineering discipline
5 or more years experience developing mechanisms and mechanical hardware
Experience with full product development lifecycle from concept development through production
Hands-on experience with small unmanned systems or model aircraft desired

Primary Duties and Tasks
Take ownership of significant portions of the airframe development process including mechanical design, analysis, fabrication, testing, and production
Participate in conceptual design and development of mechanical system architecture
Develop trade studies and risk reduction tests to validate designs
Work with external suppliers to quote and procure mechanical hardware
Fabricate mechanisms, airframes, and test setups using standard prototyping methods
Work with management to develop realistic timelines and scope of work to achieve project goals
Skills and Expertise
Demonstrated competence in Mechanical design including development of lightweight metallic and composite mechanisms and structures
Experience with complete mechanical engineering lifecycle from design through manufacturing
Demonstrated understanding of material properties and structural analysis
Ability to work within a fast-paced research and development environment
Proficiency with Solidworks and Microsoft office suite
