    Commonwealth Rolled Products (CRP) is a leading manufacturer of Aluminum rolled products for the Automotive, Commercial, and Industrial markets.

    The Company operates its production facility in Lewisport, KY with the support of an Automotive Innovation Center for R&D, Sales and Field Service in Madison Heights (DET), and Inside Sales in the Cleveland, OH area.

    CRP is seeking to add a talented Product Engineer (Materials Science/Metallurgist) at its production facility n Lewisport, Kentucky. This position reports to the Product Technology and R&D Manager.

    The individual in this position will use his/her knowledge to build and curate technical knowledge of metallurgical aspects of rolled aluminum products and the critical processes used to create them.

    Expectations are for this person to discover innovative solutions to technical problems, develop new products in order to meet our customers' requirements and to enter new markets, support product implementation and customer qualification, improve existing products to satisfy internal goals or customer needs, and to create, improve and standardize the processes required to make these products in order to ensure customer satisfaction.

    This position requires an individual with technical ability, a passion for new technology, and excellent communication skills.

    Responsibilities Include:
    Work safely, in compliance with all corporate, plant, local, state and federal safety rules and regulations. Keeping abreast of current policies, procedures, and ensuring outside vendors/contractors comply with the same.

    Investigate, develop and provide recommended solutions for any safety issues related to plant equipment requiring field or project engineering as assigned.

    Develop and maintain our portfolio of Aluminum Alloys using a high degree of understanding of aluminum applications in both Common Alloy & Automotive Sheet Products and their end use.

    Implement and manage projects for improving existing product properties in order to strengthen our supplier position at key automotive customers and lower cost.

    Develop and implement successful manufacturing practices for production of newly developed products. Document and publish standard process requirements.
    Ensure adherence to all process specifications and evaluate and approve process changes with regard to effect on product properties. Interface with plant operations personnel to make sure needed practices are implemented; train employees as needed.

    Review product inquiries and customer specifications and determine applicability of existing Commonwealth products; Recommend and execute improvements to existing products and/or implement development projects in order to provide products that successfully meet customer specification requirements.

    Lead product implementation and customer qualification activities for Automotive Sheet Products.
    Evaluate and disposition internal product non-conformities related to product properties and process deviations.
    Manage product definition and routings for product portfolio alloys. Review product performance and propose corrective action for issues that arise.
    Follow up and approve qualification trials for outsourced material suppliers with regards to effect on product properties.

    Give technical support to customers based on a detailed level of knowledge on customer process and general product requirements; investigate and report on customer claims related to product properties and process deviations.


    Required Qualifications:


    Experience with aluminum alloys, methods of their manufacture including all critical aspects of thermomechanical processing, and detailed knowledge of international standards for aluminum products.

    Detailed knowledge of all supplied markets, product requirements, and customer processes and applications from a wide range of customers, especially those in the automotive industry.

    3-10 years of related industrial experience.
    Knowledge of quality techniques such as FMEA, MSA, PPAP, APQP.
    Technical and process management skills are needed in this position, with potential ability to work multiple projects simultaneously.

    Must possess strong analytical, decision making, and problem solving skills including the ability to solve problems while exhibiting practical judgment and realistic understanding of the issues involved.

    Ability to overcome obstacles and find reasonable resolutions to situations on a case by case basis as encountered.
    Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
    Strong and clear presentation, communication, and Customer facing skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    A metallurgical/materials science engineering degree.
    Masters or Doctorate.
    Aluminum Automotive Body Sheet Manufacturing experience.
