    The Assistant Director of Social Justice and Inclusion is part of the Multicultural Student Services (MSS) Department at UAA.

    MSS is committed to uplifting students with marginalized identities through fostering a sense of community and belonging, co-creating meaningful engagement for holistic student development, and transforming the cultural roots of systemic inequities.

    MSS specifically works to uplift students who identify as Black, African American, Indigenous, Native American, Hispanic, Latine/x/a/o, Asian, Pacific Islander, multiracial, or mixed heritage; LGBTQIA2S+ students; students who practice minoritized religions and international students.

    The ideal candidate for this position is a natural community builder who brings leadership, innovation and strategy to developing and sustaining programs and practices to increase success among students of color and international students.

    Reporting to the Director of Multicultural Student Services, the Assistant Director of Social Justice and Inclusion is responsible for leading initiatives and programs that increase community and belonging, identity development and leadership development among students of color, daily operations of the Multicultural Center, budget management, and student and professional staff supervision.

    Multicultural Student Services at UAA seeks an innovative and dynamic Assistant Director of Social Justice and Inclusion.

    Reporting to the Director of Multicultural Student Services, the Assistant Director of Social Justice and Inclusion is responsible for leading initiatives and programs that increase community and belonging, identity development and leadership development among students of color, daily operations of the Multicultural Center, budget management, and student and professional staff supervision.


    Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and awareness of identity development, community needs, or student success strategies for students of color and international students.

    Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to working with communities of color across multiple intersecting dimensions of difference such as Queer & Trans People of Color, students with disabilities, Multiethnic/Multiracial, etc.

    Demonstrated experience in and commitment to racial and social justice, advocacy, and educational programming. Experience with student staff supervision, fiscal management, program coordination, and assessment. Experience initiating and fostering relationships with multiple stakeholders. Knowledge of the challenges facing students from various marginalized populations. Demonstrated experience in working with programs that focus on academic, cultural, and personal needs of students.


    Experience in an higher education setting with a focus on the following: supporting student diversity and racial justice programs, student leadership development, student retention strategies and developing student-centered programs.

    Experience working with assessment tools (Qualtrics, Google Forms, Excel), social media and marketing platforms (Instagram, Marketing Cloud). Excellent verbal and written communication skills. High level of teamwork and collaboration skills.


    Minimum Qualifications:


    Bachelor's degree in higher education administration, student personnel services, counseling, psychology, social work, ethnic studies, public health, education, or other closely related discipline from an accredited institution of higher education and demonstrated experience working with marginalized communities with a focus in social justice, educational programming, community building, program planning and/or advocacy.

    Demonstrated experience working in roles with significant student contact supporting students of color and/or international students.

    Work experience must include comprehensive student staff supervision, strategic planning and demonstrated sound judgment advancing equity and justice for and with people with marginalized identities.

    Masters is preferred in a related field and 4 years experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.


    Position Details:
    This position is located on the UA campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.

    UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage.

    New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 80 (starting at $29.28), based on education and experience.
