    Endoscopy Technician - Hiring now

    Bettendorf Ambulatory Campus

    0.8 FTE (scheduling 4 days a week with 8 hour shifts; Endo call one night a week and every 4th weekend)

    Shift Differentials:
    Base + 12% for any hours worked 6pm-6am + $1/hr for all hours worked on Sat/Sundays

    Endoscopy Technician assists the medical team that uses endoscopes to diagnose and/or treat gastrointestinal problems.

    The Endoscopy Technician interacts with patients, prepares the room and equipment, and provides support to physicians and nurses while the procedure is underway.

    The endoscopy technician handles specimens collected and high level disinfect of equipment.

    Responsibilities


    Patient Care:
    Preparing and positioning patients for procedures.

    Assists physician with instrumentation during procedures including the collection of specimens, cultures, and biopsies.

    Ability to handle pressure and think quickly to address the needs of the patient and nursing unit.

    Assists with off shift GI cases being on-call as needed. Response time will follow current policies.


    Develops knowledge of the Endoscopy patient population and of nursing routines and assists as needed with basic patient-care tasks under direct supervision of an RN.

    Assists in emergency procedures in an inpatient setting

    Assists with advanced procedures such as ERCPs.

    The endo tech will be able to assist with greeting patient and driver.

    They will instruct the driver on the process and take the patient to the admit room, so they can dress for the procedure.

    The endo tech, under the direct supervision of the RN, will assist with patient discharge. This will include, assisting the patient with activity and diet. They will chart in EPIC, any task that they have performed. They will assist patients in getting dressed and help them out to their vehicle as necessary.

    Supports UPH/Trinity' s safety initiatives to improve patient safety.

    Support customer satisfaction initiatives.

    Supports regulatory recommendations and changes.

    Actively participates in timeout process and specimen verification. Proper labeling of specimen will be a dual process between nurse and tech.

    Ability to follow detailed procedures. Must be able to listen to instruction, translate it into activity, and reproduce what is taught.

    Demonstrates knowledge, purpose and correct dosage of medications and solutions used on the endoscopy procedural field

    Correctly labels medications and solutions and monitors quantities used on the procedural field


    Sterilization:

    • Adheres to the competencies and guidelines for high level disinfectant and gas sterilization.
    • Consistently and comprehensively practices universal precautions to prevent the transmission of infection to self or others.
    • Is knowledgeable of and consistently and comprehensively practices the appropriate handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals to ensure hospital compliance with OSHA standards and to ensure the prevention of contamination or injury to self or others.
    • Is responsible for the appropriate care and handling of endoscopes and all auxiliary equipment, including proper inspecting, cleaning, disinfecting, processing, assembling, and storing of the above as defined by unit-based standards. Is knowledgeable regarding clean, disinfected, and sterile. Tech can apply learnings of high level disinfectant and consistently adheres to all applications to prevent patient contamination and/or infection.

    Room Set up And Equipment Maintenance:

    • Pre-cleans and reprocesses all types of scopes following manufactures instructions.
    • Assists with room clean up and turn-around post-procedures.
    • Restocks rooms as necessary
    • Monitor and reorder supplies as necessary
    • Oversees the proper functioning of equipment by requesting and monitoring routine maintenance. Identifies functional problems with equipment, performs basic troubleshooting of equipment, requests equipment repairs and maintains repair records.
    Qualifications

    Education:
    High School Diploma or equivalent

    Experience:
    Patient care in hospital setting, basic ECG. A minimum training/orientation period of 12 weeks to become proficient in the job. Must have a knowledge of basic medical terminology and strong communication skills. Prior endoscopy or gastrointestinal disorders knowledge

    License(s)/Certification(s): Must have CPR current certification, Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
