    Job Description

    Primary Purpose
    This is an exciting 2-year graduate program for an Associate to learn wide aspects of Project Controls functions such as Cost Controls, Project Scheduling, Risk Management, Estimation, Reporting, and Quantity Survey for multibillion-dollar energy infrastructure projects. In this position, the Associate will go through four rotations in the Project Controls organization approximately every 5-6 months and learn the various roles of project controls. This position will learn about and work on a wide range of energy infrastructure projects, including LNG, NetZero, pipeline and gas storage projects, and how the projects are managed and controlled. Minimum one rotation will be a role on a construction site (North America). The Associate will benefit from formal training courses, mentoring and coaching, feedback and evaluation, exposure to different projects and departments, and networking with senior leaders and peers. The assigned mentor will guide the project controls associate through the rotation period to maximizing learning and career development opportunities in various functions. At the completion of the rotation program, the mentor and supervisors from each rotation will meet and identify the best opportunities for final placement.     Duties and Responsibilities

    • Understanding Energy Infrastructure Major Projects:
      • Learn Project Development process and Capital Value Process (How projects are developed and evaluated for funding eligibility) and depending on the rotation, develop project controls deliverables.
      • Learn about Energy Infrastructure projects, technologies, and Engineering and Construction process.
      • Participate in project meetings.
      • Participate and engage in safety training which is mandatory for all employees going to a project site.
    • Learn Project Controls Functions and Processes (Four rotations out of 6 functions):
      • Project Controls Associate will be assigned to four rotations as a part of the program and each rotation will be with a different discipline within project controls. This role will be trained on the basic Project Controls concepts and gain hands-on experience. A minimum of one rotation will be with the execution stage project controls team at a mega-project site (see other qualifications).
      • In all rotations, the Project Controls Associate will be required to navigate the knowledge bank and review standards, processes and procedures and will support development or modification to current documents, based on lessons learned, as appropriate.
      • Learn project scheduling concepts and technique using Primavera 6. Support Project Schedulers with constructor schedule validation, schedule data analysis and schedule reporting. May also work on the development/update of integrated schedule that encompasses both contractor and owners schedule activities during the development phase of projects.
      • Learn cost analysis, budgeting, forecasting, contingency management and reporting. Learn project cost system, TM1. Assist Cost Controls team with invoice reviews and invoice tracking. Learn how the project budgets are established and actual and forecast variances are analyzed. Participate in the economic model update process for development projects.
      • Learn estimation process and different classes of estimation. Participate in estimation development and validation process. Support the Estimation team with the large contract price validation effort. Review market data and support knowledge bank organization and develop and update the benchmarking repository.
      • Learn different types of risk management concepts and assist risk management team with various risk analysis workshops, project risk data update, and contingency calculation using Monte Carlo Simulation method. Prepare presentations and participate in trend meetings and discussions, as appropriate.
      • Learn project reporting. During the execute stage, support the project controls managers by gathering various project data, analyzing and developing weekly/monthly project reports. Coordinate with the functions for timely input into reports that get issue on a regular cadence. Develop presentation packages as required and may present at the project status meetings.
      • Learn quantity survey process (this rotation will be onsite). Learn how to evaluate contractors progress measurement system and perform field verifications and reporting of quantity progress. Attend progress report meetings and prepare data for reports and presentations. Review EPC invoices and backup documentation.
    • Perform other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
    Qualifications

    Education

    • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree preferably in engineering, accounting, finance, economics or related business administration field. GPA >3.0 Required

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Working knowledge of Microsoft suite such as PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
    • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
    • Oral and written communication skills.

    Other Qualifications

    • Flexibility to travel and work at construction sites during one or more rotations. Any trips to a construction site or placement with a site project team will require safety training and adherence to all site safety policies is mandatory. Active construction sites are currently in Port Arthur, TX; Ensenada, Baja California, MX; and Sulphur, LA.
    • If the graduate is with the ECA LNG project in Baja California, MX, the assignment location would be San Diego with weekly travel to Ensenada provided through a company shuttle. A valid U.S. passport will be required for this rotation. This position may start in San Diego, but at least one of the roles will be based in the Sempra Infrastructure headquarters in Houston, TX. After the conclusion of the graduate program, final placement will be in Houston, TX, only.
    Work Schedule

    HYBRID: Work a combination of onsite and remote days each week, typically 3 days per week onsite.
