    Description

    DENTAL ASSISTANT
    Full-time (40 hours per week)

    General Responsibility:
    Assisting the Dentist(s) and Dental Hygienist(s) in the direct provision of primary care dental services to patients.

    Specific Responsibilities:

    Sterilization, preparation and inventory control of dental instruments and supplies; data entry, assembling patient charts, patient registration, billing, verification of dental insurance and customer service.

    Open and closes dental clinic.

    Assists in the provision of high-quality care within the scope of service consistent with accepted standards of care for certified dental assistants.

    Prepares each operatory and patient for treatment. Exposing digital radiographs of good diagnostic quality. Provides active chairside assistance to the Dentist and anticipates the provider's needs. Transfers instruments as appropriate for four-handed dentistry. At the conclusion of patient care, assists the patient, clears the work site and prepares for the next patient. Monitors the flow of laboratory cases. Monitors and records sterilization cycles. Maintains and inventories supplies. Helps to manage patient flow in clinic. Assists with dental charting as appropriate. Assists in the prevention and management of dental emergencies. Manages the patient during dental procedures. Takes impressions for study casts, and custom tray; performs laboratory procedures neatly and efficiently. Follows proper infection control protocols according to Tri-County's Dental Policies and Procedure while meeting OSHA, CDC, and ADA standards. Performs monitors and records all sterilization activities. Disposing of and preparing "red bag waste" for pick up by waste removal. Maintains proper aseptic techniques necessary with dental equipment. Maintains and properly sterilizes instruments. Routinely cleans, disinfects and restocks operatory. Maintains and inventories dental supplies and reorders as necessary; tracks and verifies invoices. Assisting with Receptionist duties as needed. Participating in continuing education programs, including one (1) annual training program on compliance with OSHA's Blood borne Pathogen Standard.

    Qualifications:
    Certification strongly preferred. High School diploma or GED equivalent.

    Special Qualifications:
    Requires a comprehensive knowledge of dental assisting techniques and procedures for all phases of general dentistry. Proficiency in four-handed dentistry a must. Knowledge of modern dental materials, their storage, handling and applications is required.

    Basic computer skills are a necessity and must include experience with a working knowledge of digital radiography and digital charting is preferred.
