    Essential Duties

    • Conduct financial analysis and develop reports to ensure budget and position actions are aligned throughout the year.
    • Partner with position control personnel in Human Resources to maintain budgetary position data records.
    • Perform complex payroll calculations regarding balancing and remittance of timely payments to local, state, and federal entities as required by law including, but not limited to, payroll taxes, garnishments, court orders, and tax levies.
    • Generate payroll and create ACH files for transmission to financial institutions.
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports including, but not limited to, federal and state tax reports, labor reports, and other miscellaneous payroll and accounts payable reports.
    • Monitor accounting records to ensure accurate recording, posting journal entries to appropriate accounts and ensuring balanced accounts as necessary.
    • Receive and respond to inquiries from District management and staff regarding payroll and payables.
    • Assist staff by providing technical guidance and direction in payroll and payables functions.
    • Assess current accounting processes and make necessary automation and efficiency improvements, coordinating with Information Services and/or vendors as required.
    • Review and implement, to the extent possible, internal controls and procedures designed to safeguard the assets of the school district.
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in public or business administration, preferred.
    • Five or more years of progressive experience in accounting or payroll functions, required.
    • Ability to work independently and exercise professional judgement in decision-making.
    • Ability to analyze existing processes and identify areas for improvement.
    • Strong computer skills with applicable knowledge of Microsoft Excel; ability to lead professional development on relevant software.
    • Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
    • Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
    • Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
    • Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
    • Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
    • Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
    • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
