    The Materials Business is seeking a high potential, resourceful, hands-on, problem-solving Product Engineer with the capacity to quickly grasp and resolve a wide range of technical challenges.

    This Product Engineer position will support SiC substrate and epitaxial wafer manufacturing as part of the Wolfspeed Materials Division.

    In this role, the Engineer will work on a diverse set of assignments to improve product quality, increase yield, decrease cost, conduct failure analysis investigations, create technical content for internal and external distribution, and achieve customer satisfaction.

    Success will require close partnership with downstream customers and understanding of Materials and Epi contributions to device performance in order to drive root cause investigations and corrective actions for Materials problems which result in downstream yield loss.

    The workplace will be a mix of office, lab, manufacturing, and cleanroom areas.

    The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast paced, deadline-oriented, manufacturing environment and work constructively and collaboratively with Manufacturing, Engineering, R&D, Senior Management, IT, Customer Service, and Sales & Marketing personnel.


    The Day-to-Day:
    Work with Engineering and R&D personnel to improve product quality, increase yield, and decrease cost, and achieve customer satisfaction
    Interface with Operations and Engineering organizations across the business, from Materials to Epitaxial growth to Device Fabrication, in order to identify integrated yield contributions and improvements
    Collaborate with Sales & Marketing personnel to respond to customer concerns, answer technical questions, and improve customer satisfaction
    Conduct failure analysis and root-cause investigations to assist in responses to non-conforming material and customer complaints
    Write accurate, detailed, and concise 8D reports and white-papers
    Analyze historical data to search for problem sources and significant factors; follow-up with designed experiments and results analysis
    Coordinate special processing of material for characterization, recovery, experimentation, and new process development
    Create and maintain data visualization tools for wafer attributes, product specifications, and process performance
    This Job is Right for You if You Have:
    This position requires the lawful ability to access technical data, information, and areas controlled by United States export control laws and regulations
    BS degree in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Ceramics Engineering, Physics, or Applied Engineering Physics

    5 years of process engineering, sustaining engineering, or R&D work experience covering the processing and characterization of both bare SiC substrates and SiC epilayers.

    First-hand experience operating typical semiconductor metrology tools and the technical understanding of how they work and what they measure: SEM, Optical Microscope, AFM, CV Probe, Hall, Contactless Resistivity (eddy current), Profilometer, Spectrometer, Spectroscopic Ellipsometer, Photoluminesence
    Completion of 8D, 5-Why, FMEA, MSA, and DOE training
    Workplace experience leading 8D investigations to uncover and correct failure modes
    Fluency in basic SQL queries to retrieve, join, filter, and summarize data from multiple data sets
    Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, and Access
    Proficiency with software for data analysis, visualization, and statistical process control, including JMP, Spotfire, Tableau, and Camline SPACE

    Strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to interface effectively with different backgrounds and at every level of the organization.

    Ability to work effectively and take initiative with little/continuous direct supervision
    Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

    Preferred Qualifications:
    MS or PhD in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Ceramics Engineering, Physics, or Applied Engineering Physics.
    1+ years of process engineering, sustaining engineering, or R&D work experience covering the processing and characterization of III-Nitride epilayers.
    1+ years of process engineering, sustaining engineering, or R&D work experience covering the growth, processing, and characterization SiC crystals.
    6-sigma green-belt or black-belt certification
    Completion of Design for 6-Sigma training
    Track record of successful oral presentations or poster presentations at technical conferences
    1 or more patents in any area
    This role may require additional duties and/or assignments as designated by management.
