About the Role
Fayetteville Public Works Commission is seeking a skilled Power Plant Maintenance Mechanic to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
Perform preventive, routine, and emergency maintenance on power plant equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, test, and repair pumps, valves, turbines, compressors, boilers, fans, piping systems, and related equipment.
Assist with testing mechanical equipment to determine optimal operating performance.
Perform layout, fabrication, rigging, and welding tasks.
Take accurate measurements for piping systems and steel fabrication projects.
Cut, clean, grind, hang, and paint structures and piping as required.
Oversee and coordinate work performed by contractor personnel, serving as a liaison to ensure work meets plant standards.
Maintain logs, reports, and maintenance documentation.
Work extended hours and participate in on‑call rotations as required.
What You'll Bring
Working knowledge of safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
Understanding of operating systems, flow diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
Knowledge of mechanical maintenance practices in an industrial or power plant environment.
Hands‑on skills in welding, cutting, and pipe fitting.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate logs and reports.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work collaboratively with employees and contractors.
Minimum Qualifications
Option A:
Associate degree or technical certification in mechanical technology or a related field
Plus 2 years of mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial facility
Option B
High school diploma or equivalent
Plus 4 years of mechanical maintenance experience as described above
OR
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Special Requirements
Must be on call and able to report on site within a specified timeframe
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, including physically demanding maintenance tasks.
