    Job Responsibilities

    Manages a database of traffic signals and conducts coordinated and isolated signal timing changes. Manages consultant-led coordinated signal timing projects. Coordinates with District Signal Shop on repairs as needed. Makes engineering field decisions on traffic signal projects at the direction of the District Traffic Engineer (DTE). Ensures ongoing traffic signal construction and maintenance projects are consistent with department standards and maintains knowledge of those projects. Manages and conducts special projects as assigned by the DTE in support of SCDOT's and the traffic engineering department's long-term goals. Attends meetings to coordinate with other government agencies on regional projects. Develops signal, signing, pavement marking, and roadway improvement plans using Microstation. Conducts various traffic engineering studies. Uses Synchro and other computer programs to assist in developing solutions and recommendations in regards to traffic engineering. Provides recommendations in report form based on the analysis of current and projected traffic operation conditions. Assists the DTE in the review of construction plans to ensure compliance with traffic engineering practices and standards. Provides excellent customer service and occasionally communicates with the general public, elected officials, local government officials, and others. Develops and maintains traffic study files, signal plans, and construction plans with a high level of organization. Performs other related duties as assigned.
    Minimum and Additional Requirements

    A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and five (5) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.

    Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.

    A motor vehicle operator's license is required.
