    The COMET contract involves overseeing and executing ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This crucial role supports various programs including the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services.

    In this capacity, you will serve as the IT Network Engineer for the Modeling and Simulation Integrated Product Team (M&S IPT). The M&S IPT plays a vital role in supporting NASA's Spaceport Command and Control System (SCCS) used for preparing and launching the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft. The selected candidate will contribute to the simulation infrastructure used for testing the Launch Control System and training console operators for NASA's Artemis program.

    Responsibilities

    Key tasks encompass designing, developing, integrating, testing, documenting, and backing the computer systems and network infrastructure essential for the M&S IPT.

    Under general guidance, job duties will involve:

    • Reviewing user requirements and conducting analysis, design, implementation, installation, testing, maintenance, and documentation for new hardware and network configurations.
    • Providing expert support for hardware and network architecture/design.
    • Ensuring adherence to relevant hardware standards, processes, and design principles.
    • Assisting with real-time troubleshooting, anomaly resolution, and system recovery when required.
    • Participating in design panels, technical assessments, and analysis to assess the impact of new capabilities and changes on the products and overall system.
    • Undertaking other duties as assigned.

    Here's what you'll need :

    Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent technical field from a recognized institution, along with four (4) years of relevant experience. Advanced degrees may be taken into consideration as part of the experience requirement.

    Job Requirements

    • Full life cycle architecture, design, development, testing, integration, delivery, and maintenance.
    • Knowledge of computer hardware and network architecture to support near real-time processing.
    • Proficiency in Linux OS, including kernel, threading, and networking.
    • Experience with installation/configuration of virtual machines.
    • Expertise in installation/configuration of computer servers, switches, and other IT infrastructure.
    • Planning and executing enhancements and upgrades to the network.
    • Administration and upkeep of computer hardware, software, and networks.
    • Creating technical documentation.
    • Demonstrating consistent positive outcomes with minimal supervision.
    • Prioritizing and performing in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
    • Working autonomously and collaboratively in a team setting.
    • If offered the role, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder status in the United States is mandatory.

    Desired Experience/Abilities:

    • VMware vSphere
    • Ansible Automation Platform
    • CompTIA Server certification
    • VMWare Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualization certification.

    Physical Requirements

    • May need to ascend stairs for equipment access during troubleshooting.
    • May be required to wear appropriate protective equipment like hearing and eye protection.
    • Position might entail extended periods of sitting or standing.
    • Physical demands could include sitting, walking, standing, stair use, and access to remote structures.
    • The role is situated in a hazardous testing environment; ability to swiftly evacuate buildings in emergencies is essential.

    Work Environment

    • May involve working both indoors and outdoors across the testing complex.
    • Daily travel within different areas on site might be necessary.
    • Traversing uneven terrain like paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand may be required to access various facility locations.
    • Ladder climbing and platform usage may be involved.
    • All work must adhere to safety protocols in line with NASA and company standards.

    Equipment and Machines

    • Use of computers and printers for report and schedule generation.
    • Various equipment used for testing purposes.

    Attendance

    • Full-time working hours.
    • Occasional overtime, including weekend work, may be needed depending on the task.
    • Reliability and punctuality are crucial.
    • Shift work scenarios may apply.

    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Readiness for travel to meet position requirements, including potential airline travel to and from customer locations. Alternative arrangements may be accommodated if necessary.

    • Strict compliance with all directives concerning a drug-free workplace, necessitating drug testing for employees in sensitive roles.
    • Possibility of needing government security clearance in the future.
