    Position Title:
    Instructional Support Personnel - full-time (Early Childhood

    Specialist)- 6 full time openings

    Reports to:
    Early Development Center Coordinator


    FLSA:
    Non-exempt

    Summary of the position:
    The position begins on Teacher In-Service Day of the MCS school calendar and ends on last Records and Reports day of the MCS school calendar, with additional work days falling during scheduled breaks on the MCS school calendar days total).

    To guide and assist each student in the fulfillment of his or her potential for intellectual emotional, social, and psychological growth and maturation.


    Qualifications:

    First aid/CPR certified, must pass a drug screen and background check with fingerprinting, CDA or higher in Early Childhood Development preferred.

    2 years of college or successful completion of the para-pro exam.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    Makes preparations for and leads classroom activities.

    Supervises testing and make-up work.

    Personalizes instructional materials in advance and shows written evidence of preparation.

    Secures and prepares instructional materials in advance and shows written evidence of preparation.

    Plans purposeful assignments for substitute teachers, teacher assistants, and student teachers when applicable.

    Assists in the evaluation, selection, and requisition of books, equipment, audio-visuals, and other supplementary materials.

    Demonstrates a knowledge of the subject matter.

    Diagnoses and develops plans for the learning problems of students appropriate to the level of achievement.

    Refers students to specialists when deficiencies are detected or suspected.

    Implements all curriculum programs positively and efficiently.

    Establishes clear objectives for all learning experiences and communicates these objectives to students and their families.

    Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with students.


    Makes use of a variety of resources (emphasizing technology) materials, and methods in an effort to improve the effectiveness of instruction.

    Exhibits interest in what is being taught and in the needs of the student.

    Effectively communicates with colleagues, students, and parents.

    Promptly and accurately handles routine matters involving reports, records, and sums of money.

    Takes all necessary precautions to protect and maintain facilities, equipment, and materials.

    Returns materials to their assigned place or designated personnel promptly after use.

    Emphasizes and enforces safety factors within the classroom, building, and throughout school.

    Maintains a disciplined atmosphere appropriate to the teaching environment.

    Maintains a practice of good housekeeping for self and students to enhance the learning environment.

    Establishes reasonable classroom rules with consistent enforcement occurring in a positive way.

    Starts class on time, gets students on tasks, and makes maximum use of instructional time.

    Demonstrates professional ethics in activities in school and community.

    Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work.

    Maintains the same ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of the licensed staff.

    Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.

    Checks and record attendance.

    Supervises playground time, meal or snack times, bus loading, and other activity-oriented programs.

    Assumes any responsibilities as may be assigned.

    Promotes good public relations for the School Corporation and community.
